Flower Vase

I cradle affection in a smooth haven
Filled halfway preserving the blooms
Redolent of sweet perfume
Welcoming guests to live out their days
Finding me as a place of repose
Beautiful expatriates search for my support
I am thrust with responsibility
The duty of lasting just long enough
When the stems are all dried up
The buds all sagging and tired
I am exonerated and dumped of the muck
Once again I shimmer alone
Then the guests return with more imposters
I am once again
In a codependent relationship
I continue to strive to make my new friends last
Soon the imposing water dims and I lose my glow
Finally the trend continues
I am revived and independent alas!
Left for the moment for to gaze at

I wrote this piece from the view of a flower vase for an assignment in my creative writing class. I hope you enjoy it :)
