New Year's
Autumn leaves
falling freely
casting shadows
on the ground.
from the sky
they pile up along the roads like
skeletons
no longer needed.
On and on
they will
fall
fall
fall
to signal the end
of yet another
year.
New leaves will
grow
but these
the ones
piled up on the roads
will be crushed
and scattered.
And so
a new year
begins.
New leaves
are celebrated
but the old are left to
die.
Why?
Who mourns them?
I don’t know
do you?
