"Try to be a rainbow in someone else's cloud" - Maya Angelou

We are kids of the night

Walking free without the light

You may see us during the day

But night is when we really play

You won’t know who we are

We blend in and watch from afar

That boy in the corner of the room

Wants to escape his personal doom

That girl in the back of the class

Watches us run over broken glass

Those three boys that stray from others

Always wish to play and have brothers

We spend our days behind brick walls

Work and life restricting us all

But when the sun goes down

We come out and rule the town

They call us the reckless kids

With our spray paint cans and tire skids

The paint seen as you drive through towns;

The big bubble letters and creepy clowns.

This is how we express our mind.

You wash it off yet more you find.

You can’t stop us from expressing,

We’ll just keep on messing.

A junkyard lies outside of town

Here is where our guard goes down

A safe haven for the broken

This place requires no special token

The man there knows what you do not

He knows the problems we’ve all got

He knows the beaten hearts and minds

Of the kids who always get left behind

He knows we manage to stay strong

Getting through days rough and long

You call us kids of the night

Since we roam about when there’s no light

You call us the reckless kids

Making art with cans and tire skids

That boy from the corner of the room

Finally escaped his personal doom

That girl from the back of the class

Now runs with us over broken glass

Those three boys that strayed from others

Now play with us and call us brothers

Next time you go out and see our mark

Remember this and don't fear the dark

We are the reckless kids of the night

Coming out when there’s no longer light
