She stared through wet-flecked eyes as the flames swallowed her beautiful home.
She screamed frantically, fighting against someone’s iron grip as she tried to pull away.
They could not go back inside. The words echoed painfully in her mind.
The smoke rose higher into the moon-lit sky, carrying his soul with it.

The author's comments:
For class, we had to write a story that had no more than 55 words. My story is exactly 55.
