The Sound of Victory

Open it.
The sound of opening brand new tennis balls
fills my ears:
pssht.
A powerful sound,
which I love.

The sun’s rays beat the courts.
The heat radiates onto me,
fully dressed in tennis attire.
I am now ready,
ready to begin my
Intense,
Heart-pounding,
Match.

Whop.
Woosh.
the brand new tennis ball makes a solid noise,
Whack.
The sound of victory whips through the air
as my racquet
full speed,
swings at the tennis ball spinning toward me.

the ball barely skims the net,
which I sometimes wish wasn’t there.
but then that would defeat the purpose of the game,
wouldn’t it?

Thud.
My ball landed in.
I am filled with relief.
I hadn’t given up the first point.
In fact,
I succeeded.
My opponent is caught off guard and
Misses.

One point down.
I have what seems like a million more to go.
Am I ready for victory?
You know it.
