Rain Curtains

By
More by this author
The rain lashes the window,
and the world outside becomes suddenly still
The windows are specked with raindrops
Behind them, rain falls in sheets
blown in the wind
like laundry on a clothesline.

I can feel drops of water and bits of gravel
hitting the back of my legs
and hurting
my soft winter feet
who haven't been outside
their soft sock cucoons
for a long time.
The branches sway above me
doing their rain dance.

The world is dark
Curtains of rain
seem to separate me
from the world
and the world
from me.
