I Woke Up

I woke up to the sound
of my alarm clock. It could
have been different.
I wore warm clothes
for this hideous weather. It could
have been different.
I rode the bus
with the same familiar faces. I could not ask
for anything more this morning.
I came back from school
to see my mother preparing my food. It could
have been different.
With my family, I ate dinner
while we shared our thoughts. It could
have been different.
After a long day’s work,
I slept for the future of tomorrow.
Keeping in mind that one day,
it will be different.
