I am waiting for you, thinking of you, hoping for you. I am broken and scared; scared of being treated the same, but hoping for something else. Sure I am mangy and old, but do you not want me still? But here I sit, alone and waiting; waiting for you to get me after you left me here. And so I wait, but you do not come. I’m scared of you but I want a home too. Every time someone passes me, my eyes spark with glints of joy and hope that someday someone may want me to be with them, comfort them and companion them. But here still I wait until that day may come. I am a shelter dog, and I am waiting for you.
