If we are truly one nation under God why must i say happy holidays instead of Merry Christms? Why is our president claiming we are a muslim country instead of a christian one like our fore fathers had said? If we are one nation under God then why do people insist on the seperation of religion and state? If we are one nation under God then when are people being put under trial for praying in football teams, schools, and on stage? Why is the name of the Lord we are under trying to be erased from our pledge of alligience that claims where our country stands? If we are one nation under God then why are students punished by teachers for bringing their bible to school some days? If we are one nation under God then why are we trying to exclude him from everything? I'm not saying we all should be christian or be forced to follow Jesus, but why is there restrictions on sharing my faith in a nation where we are supposedly one nation under God? Do I really have a choice of religion when I am punished for speaking about my faith in one nation under God?

The author's comments:
THe goverment seems to be pushing God more and more out of things and on the news I hear stories of people being put on trial for expressing their faith. These are my emotions as i hear these things.

I agree with the government to keep religion out of school, because not everyone is the same religion, but other then that. Religion should be kept out of public things, but a prayer before a football game, that is not a big deal!  If someone does not want to participate, it is their choice, and should not be forced to participate!!  This is a good topic to bring up. Many people feel strongly about it.  Religion, as i said before, should be kept out of schools, and public things. (school, work, etc) A prayer, or wearing a cross, or a CTR ring anything is fine! We should keep "One Nation under God" in the pledge, because we are a single nation. under God.

We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.

If people really believed that why would they continue with their religion?

If you could give me an example of where someone is on trial for praying, or a student is getting punished for bringing their bible to school or anything like that because I have never heard of such a thing.

keeping my "religion" to my self goes completley against the bible and what i believe. And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and know, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Not everything in our religion has to do with Obama and I am tired of people saying America is going to Hell beacause of hhim. If you are worried about your religion and your faith then deal with it, people in China are persecuted day in and day out for believing in Christ,  Jesus said that the Christian life is full of hurt and persecution, but that those who undyingly believe in him and whose faith stays strong will reap the benefits of heaven. ! corthians 13:4_8 I do not believe the economy has anything to religion so what is your point. But since you mentioned it WHO GOT US INTO THAT MESS

On nation under Buddhism? What are you talking about? Obama has merely acknowledged that we are a nation made up of people of many different faiths, both Buddhism and Christianity included. Also, how is he becoming a dictator? Give examples, please.

yes we should not be the only ones but i feel restricted on telling people my faith. People should not be sued for expressing thier faith or praying in public. We are supposed to have free religion so why are people getting in trouble efor expressing it ? Why is it against the laws for people to like teachers to express thier faith and lead christian clubs ?

I'll address this point by point:  You don't have to say happy holidays. I'm an atheist and I say Merry Christmas. It's a massive cultural holiday within the country I live in, why wouldn't I? The Christmas I know has nothing to do with any god. As for our president supposedly claiming we are a Muslim country, yes, he did, but not only a Muslim country. As someone who actually watched the inauguration speech, President Obama stated:"Whatever we once were, we're no longer a Christian nation. At least not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, and a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers". This speech is available anywhere online. The cherry picking method of spreading that Obama considers this nation a whole Muslim nation is deceitful filth. As our fore fathers said? This nation was not founded upon Christianity. Period. We have been "one nation under god" since the 50's, during the Red Scare and Cold War. Ordinary people aren't put on trial for praying at football games. Coaches, that being, those representing the schools and thus the government, attempting to lead students in prayer is a violation of the separation of church and state, because the government is not to endorse a religion. The pledge of allegiance? Also added. It used to simply read "one nation, indivisible". And, as a former Christian and a member of the Christian club on campus, I can tell you right now, flat out, that such is a lie. I, nor anyone else, has ever been punished for bringing a bible to school. All we, those who wish for a secular government, coming from all backgrounds of faith(as I know many, including myself as a former Christian wanted such), wish for the government to simply stay out of the matter. No one should feel excluded or feel like an inferior citizen for being a Hindu, or Muslim, or Atheist, or Deist, or Buddhist, est. It's our country too.

Separation of church and state is one of the basic fundamentals upon which this country was founded. The "One Nation, Under God" was not added to the Pledge of Allegiance and "In God we trust" to currency until long after the founding fathers were dead.

I personally believe "one nation, under God" should be removed from the Pledge, as well as "in God we trust" from currency. Yes, people should be able to express their faith, but not just Christians. Keep in mind that there are people just as real as any Christian who worship other deities or don't believe in any. The reference to God in the Pledge and on federal currency is inappropriate and discriminatory.
