I Am Offended

I am offended.

I can't pray in public

I can't sing "Joy to the World"

I can't set up a nativity scene in my front yard-

I'm "Shoving Religion" down "people's" throats.

I am offended.

Everyone speaks during the "moment of silence"

No one says the Pledge of Allegiance.

It's ok to drop the "F" bomb

But if I bring my Bible to school I'M crazy?

I am offended

Atheists can publicly denounce GOD ALMIGHTY

Catholics can cross themselves

But BAPTISTS are fanatics?

I am offended.

Liars have senate seats

Fools represent our nation

PRAYER was taken out of school

and no one has protested YET?

STAND UP, AMERICA!!

I see a lot of comments where people are offended that you mentioned the government and such... Let me just say that there will always be liars in the goverment, people who are elected that don't want what is best for this country, but it's up to us to face that. There will always be liars and cheaters in this world and there will always be people like that in our government, but that does not mean ALL of them are. I'm liking this piece although I do not agree with everything mention... (more »)

lol you guys  are such silly kids, if we started changing it to where you could pray as a class in school the athiests would whine and the same vice versa, they teach evolotion because it is a theory which is supported by a ton of evidence their not trying to disprove God or bash your religion they teach that because so far it's the best knowledge based answer to the universe weve got. Sorry if they don't sugar coat it and have a prayer after discussing witch burnings of puritan soc... (more »)

I don't believe that is ostacizes non-Christian children. My mom always tells me that people can choose to be as offended as they want. I feel as though nowadays a lot of people feel the need to throw around words like "inappropriate" and "discrimination" or "favoratism". Well isn't it the same thing if a Muslim woman has a head scarf on in school? To me that is the equivalent of someone being offered the chance to pray in school. It is a symbol of their rel... Okay. Controversial topic time! My beliefs: Well, this is how I feel about Christians being allowed to pray openly in school. If I put myself in someone else's shoes, I know I would feel like I should have to right to do what my religion calls for as well. And if I were a Muslim, that would include doing so five times a day. Now if most people saw this process they would probably frown upon it. But people shouldn’t even think twice about seeing/hearing Christians pray? That doesn&... (more »)

About the topics in your piece: Firstly, I agree with you on the subject of “moment of silence” and such; don’t disrespect the troops, they’re fighting for you. Secondly, people can put nativity scenes in their front yards; many people in my town have them out. Freedom of Religion is applied there. Also, I don't think Christians should preach to people, believe what you believe but don't try to convert me; I like my religion. Also, I hate it when people bash religion, don't say what you ... The use of capitalization is kind of making my eyes spaz. :) I love the piece, but please use the all caps sparingly. Otherwise, you clearly get your opinion across and provide examples. Good job. :)

I like your work. You are right, it isn't fair that some people aren't allowed to decorate their front lawns for nativity and that other people concider you to be a weirdo if you bring a bible around everywhere. People should have a right to express their own opinions and beliefs in public at their own comfort. Religion is like clothes, you can choose whatever you like and go out to society with it, people shouldn't feel offended or anything because religion is a part of everyone.

I'm fortunate to attend a school that does not take the separation of church and state to a T.  Most of the students and facilty are Christian and if they aren't, they're basically Egnostic (mostly because of a rough patch or something in they're life) so if something does come out about religion, it's not a big deal.  In history the other day, we looked up a fact on the Torah and the Bible to make them more distinguishable because no one knew the exact difference.&... separation of church and state, no pledge of allegiance or prayer in American public schools. Seems we've come a long way from when Congress first opened with a prayer - that lasted three hours.

Your writing: It was a bit dizzying. I couldnt keep track of where you were leading me. Your opinion: I think that you should have the right to practice you religion fully, but not all people are Cristians so they can't put prayer in school 4 everyone, can they?

whats wrong with allowing prayer school? If you aren't a Christian you shouldn't be forced to pray, but those who are Christian deserve the right to pray if they want.

Chrissie- Normally, I would agree with you. Your view makes sense. However, if prayer was allowed to be a part of the day at public schools, that shows blatant partiallity toward one religion. This would be inappropriate, not to mention it would ostracize all of the non-Christian kids. The Christian children can pray as much as they want, but it shouldn't be in the public school classroom. The classroom is for learning, unless it is a bible studies classroom.

not only Christians pray. Allowing prayer at public schools would allow prayer for everyone, not just Christians. This is America; everyones suposed to have religious freedom, and I believe that includes prayer

Valid point. I do believe that anyone is allowed to pray in school, and that is a personal decision. I just don't think that prayer should be initiated by the school; with the exception of religious schools, schools shouldn't be involved with things like that. Anyone who wants to pray can pray without the school's involvement.

Nope, sorry friends. Not everyone prays! Atheists don't pray, so if you allowed prayer in schools, you would be forcing some kids to do something they don't believe in... Separation of church and state. Pray all you want in school, just don't make it required.

I agree with ?.!@, religon should be treated as an extra cirricular. It shouldn't interfer with school and people should respect each others choices about what they do and or believe.

Just bc people are allowed to pray in class doesn't mean that they HAVE to. Therefore, it would simply allow people to have the choice. Which of right now, they don't have.
