I Am Offended

I am offended.

I can't pray in public

I can't sing "Joy to the World"

I can't set up a nativity scene in my front yard-

I'm "Shoving Religion" down "people's" throats.

I am offended.

Everyone speaks during the "moment of silence"

No one says the Pledge of Allegiance.

It's ok to drop the "F" bomb

But if I bring my Bible to school I'M crazy?

I am offended

Atheists can publicly denounce GOD ALMIGHTY

Catholics can cross themselves

But BAPTISTS are fanatics?

I am offended.

Liars have senate seats

Fools represent our nation

PRAYER was taken out of school

and no one has protested YET?

STAND UP, AMERICA!!

Are you saying students shouldn't be taught about evolution?

They should teach both intelligent design and evolution. Its not only christians who believe in intelligent design, and it is very accountable.

No law says you can't pray in public; you can pray in public in America all you want. In fact, what I'm guessing is the most important book in your life, the Bible, is where it says NOT to! Matthew 6:5-6 And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go to your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who ... (more »)

i personally think that people do things like this not to offend you but ither religions. i am personally of a religion that is not commenly celebrated in american schools. and i know from personal experience that it hurts when other people say prayers in school and you have to sit out. it makes you feel like an outsider so i think that you can bring your bible into school and put a nativity scene out on your lawn plenty of people do but i dont think that there should be a set prayer time for sc... I am a Christian too (also a baptist).  I see your point about prayer in schools and the other things you mentioned.  To the others who posted comments, if you allow prayer in school, that doesn't mean you have to pray.  We have the freedom of religion, and I think that if prayer is allowed in school, then people of other religions can pray or whatever they do, too.  Anyway I liked this piece.

Nobody says you aren't allowed to pray in school. You have the freedom to put whatever you want on your lawn, and flaunt your religion, and pray wherever you please. Although- there should NOT be a set "praying time" in any public school or anywhere, in fact. THAT is what we like to call shoving religious beliefs down ones throat. Having no prayer time in schools, and taking "God" out of the pledge of allegience simply creates a standard if you will that allows us to not ... (more »)

The problem is not that people are not saying the pledge or that people are not carrying bibles everywhere. The problem is that people wont respect other religions. Say people get offended that a person says "Merry christmas" instead of "happy holidays", who is offended more? The person that takes offense and says something about it, or the person that is simply expressing joy to others and they're being told he/she is wrong. Soon this wont only be targeted to Christianit... (more »)

Hi. I have no issues with your quality of writing in this piece (except for the unnecessary capital letters, perhaps), but I would like to talk about the content. You seem to think that the "corrupted government" you mention in your description is somehow intrinsically linked to the fact that America is (or attempts to be, anyway) a secular state. If you think that freedom of religion (as in, not forcing prayer upon students of government-funded public schools) is what is making this... (more »)

while, in adult america, christian still are powerful, in young, liberal america, is very hostile to religious teenagers. I went from a christian school to a public in 5th grade. One day, without thinking, as rushing to get to book to read during reading time, so I grab bible. I didn't show anyone  else, or read out loud from it, but soon as someone realize it was bible, I was toruble. The kid stole from mean, and basically played catch with it, and even hiding form me. That is a good point. Thank you for bringing it up; I had not considered that aspect of discrimination. I would ask you to consider the fact that Christian teenagers are not the only ones that are discriminated against. Clearly it is very difficult to be Christian in a public school. It is also, however, very difficult to be nonreligious in a private school. It is even more difficult to be M uslim pretty much anywhere. (Those are just a few examples; I could go on.) So the when the author of thi... (more »)

I agree with every word you say, River, (except for maybe the bit about the username at the end of your first comment) and this is totally out of the blue, but is your username from what I think it's from?  If it is, you've just earned yourself some extra cool points, "Sweetie."
