In 1997, fifteen out of every 1000 U.S. children were victims of child abuse. Child abuse is wrong and if hitting a women is against the law then hitting a child should be too. Child protection systems have power that harm children and families. My position on the abuse is that it is wrong to hit a child. The reason is that children should not be hit, smacked, punched, or spanked. A lot of children are taken away from their parents because of child abuse. Child Protective services take in the children. In 1997, an estimated 3,195,000 were reported to Child Protective Services (Grapes).

There was an increase of child abuse between 1996 and 1997. An average increase of 1.7% in 1996 and 1997. Overall, nationwide 41% has increased since, 1988. In Oklahoma and Delaware there were many reports of child abuse, since 1992. In 1997, 22 states provided the following breakdown for reported cases: 52% involved neglect, 26% physical abuse, 7% sexual abuse, 4% emotional maltreatment (Grapes).

Child Protective systems have power to investigate cases of child abuse. Many innocent people are hurt by Child Protective systems. Children are not only hurt by sex offenders, but are also hurt by Child Protective services. The Mondale Act of 1973 established a system of child abuse detection, prosecution, and prevention programs to handle reported cases of abuse (Kim).

The serious problem is child abuse. Physical and sexual abuse of children has increased in the last decade. Child Protection service agencies reported over three million incidents of child abuse. Whether it concerns one innocent child or thousands, child abuse cannot be dismissed or taken lightly (Kim).

Fifteen out of every 1000 U.S. children were victims of child abuse. Hitting women is against the law then also shouldn’t hitting a child be too. We should all team up to stop children from being hit, smacked, punched, or spanked. Children are being taken away from their parents because of child abuse. Child protection services take in the children, but we can help out even more. We the people should make sure our children are safe and for our children to never be abused.
