Uniforms

I believe that the dress code at my school should not change. The dress code is uncomplicated and easy.. We may wear collared shirts, pleated skirts, and Sperrys, Wallabees, or tennis shoes. You are required to wear a belt, and your socks must be black, gray, white, or navy. Boys must wear polo shirts, and girls may wear Oxfords.

Although teachers are strict about reinforcing the uniforms, it is much easier to do than if we weren't required to wear a uniform. Many people complain about how terrible the uniforms are, but I think they are relieved by them. There are many schools who have a more disciplinary dress code, and Webb's is not too strict compared to these. Some students at other institutions are required to wear matching socks, ironed skirts, and coordinating shirts. The students at my school have a variety of colors to choose from for our shirts, socks, skirts, pants, shorts, and shoes.

Also, it is easier to have a dress code because we don't have to worry about what to wear. At schools with no uniforms, students have to worry about what they are going to wear to school. If you wear really expensive clothes from Abercrombie, people think you are cool, but if you wear clothes from a thrift store, people may think you are weird. With a uniform, no one is judged by their clothing because they are all almost exactly the same. I don't have to go through my clothes every morning to find something decent to wear. I just grab a shirt, a skirt, and a pair of socks, put my shoes on and I'm ready to go. When you have a uniform, you don't have to worry about people judging you because of your clothes. Furthermore, students may easily express their personality by wearing colorful shoes or jewelry, and students may do anything they want with their hair. Students may express their personality without being judged by their peers.

Although many students are opposed to the idea of uniforms, it is not as bad as they think. We are awarded dress-out days sometimes because of accomplishments or achievements. During the week of our school carnival, we are allowed to dress out many days. Students appreciate these dress-out days very much. In my opinion, having a dress code is a very good idea.
