There is a popular phrase that has become somewhat a slogan and has gone viral among the teenagers- in a boy and girl relationship in the Philippines Island. It simply says, “Walang Forever!” meaning, that there no such forever in all human relationships whether would be in marital or live-in partner. It seems that Broken Relationships become a trend to which our young people are heading to, but the worst is, even those who have fully commit themselves to each other ecclesiastically and judicially have joined the fashion as well. So we are left with broken families, broken homes, and broken things. No wonder that our economy has always market failure and moral hazard. And even when it goes better and higher, it end up only in paying debts and repair of the brokenness of our country. And so it is, we face the world- flat broke. T.S. Eliot, one of the greatest philosopher and poet, was right when he said,

“The endless cycle of idea and action. Endless invention, endless experiment. Bring knowledge of motion, but not stillness…Where is life we have lost in living? Where is wisdom we have lost in Knowledge? Where is knowledge we have lost in information?”...We are “In age which advances progressively backward”. Indeed, we have lost and wasted a lot where we supposed to advance in meeting the demands of our time.

There is a danger for our young men and women who are so caught up to this deadly disease of our society. If we will leave it unattended we will be offering that Commitment and Loyalty are dreadful things. We are trying to turn the Joy of bonding together of marital spouse into a trauma and anxiety. We are making each other a threat in a leading a happy life instead of being an authentic partner that will uphold happiness and truthfulness. We are creating for them that “live happily ever after” is truly a fantasy story therefore not real. And the most desired “Golden Jubilee Anniversary” is just an illusion or an ancient myth therefore worth to ignore.

Truly, we succumbed to the generation of “Throwaway Society”, where everything is disposable and replaceable. Anyway, the things that we used today will be available tomorrow. So we dispose what we do not want, what is old, and what in not valuable and replace them with what is new, the latest, the fashionable, the brand-new, fresh, full of sap and still green! But things and Person are totally different altogether. Will it be nice to hear if there is disposable baby, disposable son and daughter and disposable wife and husband? Let us give a higher dignity to person if we are still aware that we are all human beings with reason, intellect, and will capable to choose what is right and wrong. Let us not demoralized ourselves just to feed our evil passion.

Nowadays, young people pattern their lifestyle with the celebrities whom they adore dearly. As Black eyed Peas put in their song, “…children act what they see in the cinema…what happened to the value of humanity?” Perhaps we should go back to that song “Where is the Love?” and ponder what sort of world we are all living together. There are celebrities who exemplified good relationship, I did not disregard that, but most of them (as far as I know) they got used of “window shopping” transferring one to the other, to whom they feel soothing and to the one that will just agree to him/her in everything. Each one are trying to look for “Mr. /Ms. Perfect”, if that is the case, they really won’t find any because we are not created in that way. Each one of us has the strength and weaknesses to work on towards that perfection. Couple should not have Space between them. But if we keep on looking only what is negative and not trying to solve it, life will eventually fall unto the grave. We cannot live our life the way others live. Each of one us has special way of living it, be the Best-version- of Yourself!

Sad to say that the slogan has already reached its pinnacle. It has been highly commercialized and widely advertised to all social medium. We can find it in movies’ title and script, and in everyday conversation of our dear Filipino – formally and jokingly. I hope when I go back I will still be welcomed with word “Mabuhay! (long live)” Or if not, I wish when I get down from the plane, I will be happier to see above the NAIA written in bold letters, waving to all passengers, “Kababayan, May forever!(Fellowmen, there is forever!”).
