The cherry on top

For the first time, vanilla sundaes aren’t so sweet. They’re those cruel, popular and “normal” people who despise your every moment alive. Plain old “sundae people” are boring themselves, though. From their immature language to lame looks, anyone could see why a new flavor is much more favorable.
The nerve of those people! You grumble to yourself as you pardon yourself between the snob cliques that are obscuring your view from your own locker, which is not even three feet away. This has happened, what, the third time this week? It’s only Tuesday morning, for god’s sake! As you approach the gang, you hear them snicker. OK, they’re about to set you off. The luxuriously creamed French Vanilla coffee you treated yourself for those straight A’s isn’t backing you up in this annoying predicament. A bunch of possible actions flirt with each other in your head: Smack their heads. Angrily tell them to back off. Call your friends over when they’re done getting their stuff so that it won’t seem like you’re facing this alone. Which you are. Tell a teacher. Put on a hard expression and glare through them to your stuff.
The best “couple” appear to be getting friends and glaring through those asinine bystanders. So you quickly grab a buddy a couple lockers down and, with her to back you up, make your fierce way to your locker’s door. As you brush your fingers against the dial and are about to roll the first number, the guy next to you says, “Hey there! I’m afraid I forgot your name. I’m also afraid I don’t care what it is.”
You can almost swear that thirty or more people are laughing. It’s not even a funny joke, let alone nice. What did you ever do to them to make them hate you so much? With a furiously fast pace, you swing open the locker, and squint to avoid his grinning, malicious countenance. Your friend tells him off, but later into the day the boy’s obviously basking in the fire of popularity. As usual, nobody but your amigos is on your side.
This guy is a plain sundae. While you may or may not like his wit, he’s not being kind, and that’s not right. If he apologized or explained he was just fooling with you, alright, accept it, as long as it doesn’t become repetitive. But if he enjoys being wicked to fit in the crowd of cronies? There’s nothing to like about them.
Another reason why vanilla sundaes are not fun people to be with? They aim for a common, “in” look. If your school’s hottest trend is wearing blue shoes with everything and anything, these guys aren’t going to forget about the fashion even for a moment. So here’s what gets ridiculous: The day you forget your sapphire sneakers, they’re trailing your case by first period. Yep. Your orange Nike’s are cool by you, but the plain people keep whispering in each other’s ears about your “dumb” and “conceited” decision. Everyone claims that you’re trying to get attention by attempting a new fad. Besides your understanding companions, who admire your unique footwear in the blur of blues, people have labeled you as someone who doesn’t “get” the idea of style. No matter what they say, your sunny shoes are keeping you marching.
As you can see, those dull, “plain vanilla sundae” people aren’t worth your time and effort. They say childish things and are afraid of sporting their one-and-only-one attire because they think they won’t be accepted by peers. I say that everyone has an individual flavorful twist. Why should we cover them up just so less diverse desserts can admire us? Be you. Be the cherry on top!
