Lately there has been a lot of focus on standardized testing,and how is it too harsh on students and  teachers across the country. There has been much talk about this topic in school boards all around the country. Now there are even test standardized testing going on in elementary schools, in grades as low as 3rd grade. Many Students , Parents and even some administrative staff has been boycotting standardized testing. This has been a hot topic for awhile now.

Besides the actual part of taking the test there is a lot of stress that comes with it. Having a lot of stress, especially with younger children can cause anxiety and depression .The number of children ages 7-17 treated for depression has doubled from 1995-2001. Since they now have standardized testing in the lower grades many parents are worried about their child’s stress levels and how it is affecting their health. Even though they do not have any standardized test in grades K-2 stress can start in early as first grade. Many students who are starting high school avoid AP classes because of stress from testing in there early on ages of school.
       

Also standardized testing is holding students back from moving on to the next grade. Holding kids back generally does not help them schools know this but still continue to do it. Studies have shown that holding a child back in early primary school reduces his/her odds of competition in high school. Also kids who are held back show worse academic achievement than those who don’t. Many studies have also shown that being held back has caused anxiety in 1-3 children and teenagers. In florida students as young as 8 years old are being forced to be held back because of failing a test.
     

Just like learning is different for all students so is taking a test. Many students are pressured by administrators to produce passing testing score but this can cause students to rebel and fail the test. Many students are proved to me brilliant thinkers but very poor test takers which can lead them to failing the tests. Many teacher parents and students on learningblogs.com think that standardized testing is destroying our society. Many states are also making the move to lower the common core testing standards in as many as 40 states!
        

As well as students teachers are also suddenly now being held responsible on how well students are doing on their tests. According to washingtonpost.org  teachers a being judged on how good or bad there teaching skills are based on there students test scores. Also New York graduates has not increased in two years which made the people who are the heads of school boards start looking at the teachers and how they are teaching their students. In 2010, 2011,2012  grades 3-8 there has been little to no growth in students progress on standardized testing. Also according to washingpost.com there has been alot of protest from teachers saying that, they should not be juged on their students
test scores.
      

There are some positives to standardized testing, standardized testing and even taking test in generally can help teachers track where the student is at. Many students who are not tested end up falling behind or even failing the class due to not understanding the material. Across the country this has been a very hot topic between students parent and teachers.
