No one is too old for fairy tales :)

A loud noise brings me out of the world between sleep and awakeness
I look around me, my room cluttered with clothes and random s***
I hear the noise again
I follow the sound until I'm staring out the window
I look past the quotes and art, plastered to the pane, that are supposed to represent who I am
To see what's outside: trees, plants a road and some houses, nothing special, nothing out of the ordinary.
But as I draw my vision back into my room, I stop
And I see a face
A plain face with green eyes and a nose and mouth that are framed by brown hair
Nothing special about it. If you saw it on the crowded streets of New York, you wouldn’t think twice.
I look past the surface and see another face
A horrible face
Covered in cuts and bruises, cheekbones hallowed out by god knows what
The green eyes sunken in, the skin around them stretched to open the eyes even wider into an expression that resembles fear. The look in them is the one of someone who has carried the weight of the world
Lips chapped and cracked, blood trickling from them like liquid words. Help me they say.
All these awful features framed by brown hair that is tangled from hateful words and many sleepless nights that come from them
Unable to stare any longer
I pull myself out of my reflection.
