   It hung there,

polluting -

black and ominous,

a smog cloud

that suffocated

the brain

and choked humanity -

slowly.

Nigger.

The word hit me,

my own classmate

spoke it

and it hit me,

a stinging slap,

a Chinese star

in the eyes

tinged with

angry blood,

hate from the

roots of trees.
