Summary:

After her father left them in 1920, Elizabeth's mother turned to illegal alcohol to solve her troubles. Unfortunately, her Broadway acting career was going downhill, and Mary Reed was running short on money to pay for her newfound addiction. But when she encountered a powerful speakeasy owner in need of a young waitress, Elizabeth seemed to fit the bill.

For the last five years, when most 15 year old girls were in school, Elizabeth spent her days in the basement of an abandoned bar on one of the busiest streets in New York, cleaning up after another wild night in the speakeasy. Little did she know that things could get much, much worse.
