   It isn't easy

to watch Santa Barbara

when you look at me that way.

Maybe when I'm thirty,

I'll watch McNeil/Lehrer

but for now, I watch Santa Barbara

and you don't make it easy.

It isn't easy

to listen to Z 94

when you say "What's that noise?"

Maybe when I'm twenty, I'll listen to National Public Radio

but for now I like Madonna

and you don't make it easy.

When I was younger, yours was the only way.

And when I'm older, I'll probably come back to you.

But there are so many other ways

I have to be sure I've chosen for myself.

And that I don't do things your way

because I never tried

anything else.

So will you wait for me?

When I learn,

Will you still be there?
