   And when he leaves,

like a wave receding into the ocean,

he washes away your intermingled trail of footprints,

the sandcastles and dreams

you once built together.



And you stand on the beach,

the swirling sand tickling your ankles,

your eyes blindly searching the horizon,

as the sun disappears beneath the earth,



And the waves crashing rhythmically against the rocks

is the only sound you hear.
