   Silence.

Footsteps echo in empty halls,

voices lingering in a graveyard of memories.

Memories of endless days, impossible assignments and weary teachers.

Memories of the clang of lockers, the smell of chalk and ticking of the clock.

Faceless students come in and out, with the paper marking their journey.

Awards and old homework are all that are left of the year's accomplishments.

Musty bookshelves hold ancient textbooks

and laughter fades into the shadows and the dust,

into the haunting stillness of the halls.
