“To Be a Princess” by Maya Vyas was a very touching piece. It is about a girl’s experience at a pageant. As simple as that sounded, it wasn’t simple at all. Those six short paragraphs about her experience made something very clear to me.

Every person in this world is beautiful. No matter what your skin color, religion, race, sexuality, or background is, you are beautiful. There is no standard for beauty. You don’t have to be caucasian with blonde hair and blue eyes to be attractive.

Pageants are based off on what the judges think is beautiful. But what the panel says is not always true. Every girl on stage at that moment has given up something to be there. All so they can be judged and recognized as “pretty” or not.

You’re pretty no matter what. Remember that.
