What first drew my attention to the article “Ocean Trash” by Philip Rabideau was the artwork by Sydney Ghoreishi illustrating it. This made me want to know more about the article.

The facts that Philip mentioned are sad but true; for example, he stated that “the biodiversity of the oceans is crumbling.” We may not realize it, but the trash we discard builds up and is destroying the marine life ecosystem. When animals mistake trash for food, it can result in death. Destroyed marine life will have a ripple effect and put the Earth out of balance.

We are being ignorant by not protecting marine life. We are blaming big industries for the pollution, yet we still demand the products that they create at such a high cost. Teenagers can make a difference by thinking of how our choices will affect others.

I agree with Philip – we can return the Earth to a state of harmony and reverse the damage we have caused.
