“On Growing Up” is a beautiful poem written by Kira Pyman. It explains her feelings of growing up and how everything she used to make-pretend turned into reality. She compares the “ Mad Hatter-esque tea parties with famous stuffed animals” to “Out for coffee with regular people,” “ Fairies living in a tiny hut in the backyard” to “Destroyed and decayed grass huts lay in the backyard” and more.
Kira Pyman also compared “ Imaginary friends keeping you company” to “Real friends to keep you company” which made me want to laugh because I could have filled a whole room of imaginary friends when I was younger even though I have great REAL friends with me all the time now. It’s like I can’t let go of my infancy so Kira’s words hit me when she said ”Seems as if you ran out of pixie dust and fell into reality on your way to Neverland.” I want to be like Peter Pan and never grow up. I hope I can make it to Neverland before I run out of pixie dust!
