The poem “Just Be You” by Daniella Cressman from Ribera NM, is an inspirational piece telling readers that it is okay to be yourself. The author travels through different ideas in the poem, starting with the stereotype and how it may affect people and then smoothly shifting gears to speak about pretending that everybody is similar. She also discusses finding something that you can throw your heart into and staying with that choice even if everyone isn’t part of it. The beautiful poem is written using some common expressions that convey the deeper meaning that the author is trying to show. I also love the way that the phrasing of the poem really fits with the idea of originality and not being afraid to just be unique.
           My favorite phrase in the poem is, “Right is right but are you right in the way that is right.” I love the repetition of the word “right,” which made me think about what really is right? The line stood out also because it made perfect sense relating to the topic being discussed. Being unique and being you is based on yourself and your actions and words. Therefore, since everyone is different, there is no definite way to be “right.” I can sense that this is what the author is trying to convey to her readers. There is no reason to pretend or to follow everybody else. People should be themselves and not shy away from their distinct personalities. Another line that stood out to me was the first line, “Do you fit the stereotype?” It is a basic question that can be answered, but in reality, it’s much more difficult to find a response. This first line caught my attention right away, wanting me to read the rest of this uplifting poem. “Just Be You,” encourages people to embrace their personalities and to showcase their real selves instead of hiding behind a common stereotype
