I highly respect Emma Montgomery and her stance on feminism in her article “Double Standards.” It reminded me so much of Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's speech, “We Should All Be Feminists,” because of how women are expected to be fragile and naive.

I support my gender and agree with Emma that we girls should stand up and be more independent. The media uses us for hedonistic entertainment, but in reality, we should be as strong, autonomous, and spontaneous as boys. That said, I second her statement, “TV shows and movies should … include at least two strong women” because this will be an awakening that our gender can be robust.

Thank you, Emma, for putting this powerful message in the minds of teenage girls. Now is the time to change how we are depicted.
