Today I found out (not that long ago either) that my older brother smokes. Not just cigarrettes, but something illegal. I don't know what it is because I didn't look out my window, but I could hear him talking to his friends through my window, but he's smoking with them right now in the backyard.
My mom suspects, I think, but she has no proof. Should I tell her?
Honestly, you need to make him stop and quickly. Smoking is already bad. But if it's something illegal, it'll hurt him even more. And if people, like the police, catches him with it, he'll be in big trouble and your family might be too. Telling your mom is the best thing to do. If your brother gets mad, don't let it get to you; it's for the benifit of his health and for your family.
Ah, I agree with Osvaldo.C that telling your mom might help save your family, but then you don't want a row with your brother, right? So tell your mom that he smokes, but ask her not to tell him that you actually told her(convolution!). That might help, I think.
Right, thanks you two! But how should I tell her?
Well, there's two ways. You can either try to get her closer to the topic and say it. Or you can tell her you need to say something, tell her to calm down, then say it. Either way, it'll be hard to handle.
I told my mom today! Turns out my parents had caught him at it before, so they already knew
That's good. But your parents should really try to solve this problem before it gets late:/
I think they probably are going to talk to him about it, I heard them saying something about it just now.
That probably is going to help your bro out of his predicament.
So I'm assuming your brother is a teenager, and unless he is hardcore, he is probably smoking weed. Now I understand some people may be completely against weed, but I can tell you with full confidence that smoking weed isn't bad for your brain over long term, and is better then smoking cigarettes because the only chemical in weed is THC, which affects dopamine receptors in your brain temporarily, and this is what causes people to feel "high". I'm guessing that the reason your mom wasn't to concerned is because chances are she smoked weed when she was a teenager, as almost everyone tries it at least once in their life. As far as drugs go, weed is harmless. Don't trouble yourself or lose sleep over it. Your brother is just being human.
Okay, first I'm gonna point out, we.ed is NOT harmless. I don't really know what it does to your body or anything, but it can hurt you.
My oldest brother worked at a golf course when he was sixteen. He found a pack of ci.ga.ret.tes in the grass.
He's 28 now, and still smoking. I'm pretty sure he's smo.ked we.ed before, and maybe used other things too. He hasn't in years, but recently he had that used against him in court.
He lost everything. No, I'm not exaggerating, he lost EVERYTHING.
It might not hurt you physically, but it is very bad.
Just jumping in this charming discussion: dopamine receptors affected, in the long run can cause problems.
