Photography Advice?

Mariah M. posted this thread...
Nov. 29, 2012 at 11:32 pm

So all my life all I have ever wanted to do is be a photographer.  I LOVE taking pictures of anything and everything. I have always wanted to be a "Known" photographer. I am in photography class at my school learning iPhoto and Photoshop, But photoshop is not an easy thing to learn. I really want to get advice on how to make my photographs better, dont get me wrong some shots come out amazing, but there are some things that I have horrible luck with photography. We were doing a Color project where the focus of the project was to take our pictures ccording to colors, and it was more of a challenge than I thought. I'm not sure exactly what I'm asking advice on, I guess I am just asking tips on how to make my Photographs better than they are, and better in general.
Thanks. ~Mariah

It you are taking pictures outside watch the sun and the cloud cover. You don't want to take pictures on a really sunny day because it will wash out the colors and there will be a lot of shadows. The best days to take pictures is on an overcast day. Just make sure you have enough light.

Or better yet, you can use shadows as the focal point. You can get some awesome shapes from having people, a dream-catcher (the stringed pattern looks great) or anything really move or pose with mulitple or  one light of them and photographing the shadows. Even sunny days can work well with this! :)

For me, one thing that has been helpful has been looking at photos taken by professional photographers.  If you are into portraits, look at photos taken by a portrait photographer ~ weddings = a wedding photographer (and so on).  Find photgraphers that take photos in a style that you like (some photographers do an awesome job of utilizing natural light - some go for a mythical look, etc).  Pinterest is another great place to look for photo inspirations.  I hope this helps!  Good luck!

One thing I've found is to be fascinated by everything, especailly light. Watch the way it makes things sparkle, and how it catches the dust in the air. Watch people, observe.  For your color assigment pick something bold, do something with your 2 favorite colors...I don't know.  Good luck!
