"Yeah," Amanda said as she slowly raised her hand. She began to wonder why she had even signed up for this trip. "Wanna say that again in English this time? I don't speak astronaut. Or any kind of science for that matter." Amanda lowered her dark brown eyes to the black tabletop. Her honey blond hair hung loosely around her face, and she drummed her fingers along the table. It was times like this when she really missed home.

Bear kept quiet but she was so confused that she thought she might fall right out of her seat; what has she signed up? Bear stares down at her hands that sat on her lap; thinking. *I'm afraid to go into outer space!* Her brown eyes widen a bit at the thought but kept her eyes on her hand. *Just say thing; ask something at least!* "Umm...." *Wow! I really am stupid.* Bear sighs; annoyed at herself.

"Alright," Stars said, not terribly amused, "We are trying to either find a place suitable for us to live where we can spend the rest of our lives, or, if necessary, to create one on this ship, as you already know. Those of you already familiar with special relativity know that the speed that we go at will affect a lot of things. For those of you who aren't, time will pass slower on here than on earth, but the faster we go, particularly if we are going faster than half of the speed at which light travels, the slower it will pass. We need to get faster at around 10 meters per second per second, which is about three normal rate of speeding up while falling due to Earth's gravity. It'll take about 1 year earth time and between 1/2 and 3/4 of one ship time to get close to the speed at which light travels. It will take the same amount of time to return to a speed near zero. If we want to explore planets, we'll need to slow down enough so that we can be attracted by their gravity. In addition, we have supplies, i.e. food, sufficient for ten people for three years. If someone wants to try to invent a system which processes our waste into food, go ahead. Otherwise, we will need to pick supplies up, probably from other planets IF we can find ones with edible food. I'm not your captain or your pilot or anything, I just know a little more about science than the average teenager. So, any other questions?" ((P.S. Demon, according to Olivia The Setting Picker, we are escaping nuclear war. We don't really have a choice...))

"Wow, that's a lot of time!" Ozzy exclaimed as he entered the conversation. He just got back from doing some cleaning and started to hear the plans that Stars was saying. But he did have one question. "And what do we plan on doing after that?" he asked. He knew that this was very serious and he knew that they might need more planning than this.

"During the three years that we have until we run out of supplies," Stars said slowly, "we need to look for a new planet- Earth 2, if you will- and we have to find- or invent- a sustainable food source. The ship, as I think some of you know, can carry five years worth of food. It cannot hold a lifetime supply," Stars said as she watched the forming "mushroom" clouds and flashes of light that, for instants, were brighter than the sun through the dark glass.

After a few moments of everyone just looking at her ((hope you guys don't mind, I think that that does qualify as PPing)), Stars broke the silence. Biting her lip, she said, "We're going to have to work together and respect each other. It doesn't matter how silly your question is, your opinion matters. We all have a voice," she paused to wipe a tear from her eye, "and we ALL need to use it. So, I'm asking again. Does anyone, and I mean anyone, have any questions?"

Olivia sat away from the others, on top of a metal crate. She hadn't talked much, mostly she was just listening.

Her family had gone on a different ship, she had been separated from the rest of them when they Aspire III had been too full to hold her. She had been put on the cargo ship, which wasn't as comfortable as the passenger ones, which had all already launched.

Channel VI was huge. Plenty of space to explore, and being a cargo ship, it had a lot of supplies for the other ships when they reached the new planet.

If you looked out the front window, you could see more ships, but you couln't talk to the people in there. The pilots could communicate, but the passengers couldn't unless there was an emergency.

Bear glanced out the window; sighing. She didn't like outer space, she had always been afraid to go and what if something bad happens? Ah! Stop thinking like that; now I'll have to knock on wood! Bear thought as she glanced around the room. Darn it! No wood....would metal work? Bear glancedd at the wall next to her; she quickly knocks on it trying to be quiet. I feel stupid. She try's to think of a question but nothing came to her mind so she just kept quiet. She was siting all the way in the back; she was used to it thought. I mean- who would really want to sit with a girl who was to shy to even speak; should she'll talk quietly but still. Bear heard what Stars said about "everyone having a voice." She had a voice it was just that it was to quiet and hard to hear.

"So, to put it plainly," Amanda said as she cracked her knuckles, "once we run out of food, we're screwed. Lovely." Amanda slumped in her seat and scowled. She was never very optimistic, especially when it came to survival matters. She act tough until the cows came home, but when it came to struggling for survival, it took a while before the severity of the situation finally kicked in. Amanda didn't even know what ship her family was on. She hadn't given it much thought until now.

Seeing someone else do it, Olivia cracked her knuckles too. It was funny, how knuckle cracking was contagious. When one person did it, other people felt like doing it too. Like sneezing. The first knuckle cracker was right though, they had plenty of seeds for food when they landed on the planet, but nothing to plant them in. And a ton of DNA from animals so they could recreate them for food, but again, you can't do that on a ship.

Seeing someone else do it, Olivia cracked her knuckles, then moved on to cracking her neck, wrists, ankles, and toes. It was funny how knuckle-cracking was contaigous. Like sneezing. And itching. You see someone else crack their knuckles, and your fingers start to get that feeling of pressure that makes you want to crack them.

"Yeah," Stars said. "Which is why we need to find some before time runs out." She looked out the window again, and saw the ships moving away from each other. Well, that had been the plan. Spread out, search as wide an area as possible without getting too far from each other. Meanwhile... Some accident of fate- assuming such a thing existed- had stuck her parents on the same ship. *The captain or person in charge of their ship or whatever sure will have his (or her) hands full,* she thought wryly. She sighed. Speaking- or thinking- of captains, pilots, etc., who was holding those positions on her ship? She looked at the info leaflet. "Non-essential personnel carrying easily salvageable equipment. Leaders such as pilots are to be chosen from amongst the passengers by the same." Alright then... No one. Yet.

After a few moments, Stars raised her left eyebrow. "Okay, I have a few questions for you guys. One," she smiled a bit, "Why are some of us at the back? We have a grand total of eight people. Two, why are so few people asking questions? Three, look at your leaflets. See the section on "Government"? What should we do about our leaders? Personally, I think that we should form a democracy. We have eight people, so it should be pretty simple."

Ozzy placed his hands over his lap while trying to think of happy thoughts. He knew that they had a low chance to survive long. But he knew they could do it. "I'll answer if you want Stars. One, maybe everyone in the back is trying to relax. This all is really stressful. Two, maybe because you're doing a great job saying things and people have no questions. And three, a democracy is like a good idea." Ozzy tried to remain cheerful so that the stress wouldn't get to him so easily.

Stars looked rather sheepish. "Sorry," she said. "I guess I hadn't thought of that. Thanks, Osvaldo. However, it looks to me like at least one person is dying to say something but not doing so..." She raised her left eyebrow again and looked in the general direction of Bear.

"Umm....no it's okay; I-I don't know what to ask anyway." Bear says in a small weak voice; trying to give a weak smile to help. I could've said something better then that! Bear's weak smile starts to fade away and she looks back down at her hands; feeling ashamed about her answer.

"Come on," coaxed Stars, "Something. Anything. It's okay if you ask me if we will run into aliens that look like..." she paused. "Melinda. I may not know who Melinda is, and the best I'll be able to do is estimate the odds, but that's okay. It'll still be a valid question."

Ozzy turned over to Polarbear with a smile, assuring her to relax. "Don't worry Polarbear. You can say anything here if you want. But we'll need to work here as a team if we need to survive, right? We can do this, I know we could." Ozzy tried to remain cheerful. He had doubts that they had a long shot of doing this. But he knew, deep down, that they'll go though this.
