I stared at the reflection in the water. My reflection. I could hardly believe that the thing looking at me was actually me.
(Your turn :) ))

It seemed so distorted, so dark and twisted. I looked down at my feet. They did not look like the reflection. But they were. I could see in the crystal clear surface of the pond, rippling like sunlight on a mirror. My mirror. My reflection that stared back at me as if taunting me with all of the things I would never be. I wish it weren't mine. But it is. Undoubtedly, it is mine.

What had happened? How had it come to this? I don't even know myself anymore. What happened to that innocent child that I used to be?

I was not innocent. Anything but. My hands, once so clean, were stained with the blood of my enemies... and my friends. Innocent? So far from it

Now I was alone. No one that was left alive knew about me. No one except....

No. Not him. Anyone but him. He had made it clear to me the last time we spoke that he would make me feel even more alone then I felt when I was by myself. Like right now. Maybe he had changed. NO. I told myself fiercely. I would not let him torture me with those words that I had heard so many times. Not this time, I said to myeself. Not this time.

He hated me for what I had become. He had turned me away when I had come to him for help, when I had still had a chance.  Why would he even want anything to do with me now?

I turned away. I ran from the reflection that stared back at me, stared at the person I had let it morph into. I should have faced it, but I am a coward. A coward afraid of her own reflection. So I ran, in the hope that it would go away. The pain that ripped my heart in two, and the horror at seeing my own reflection in the sparkling water. I knew it wouldn't though. It wouldn't go away, no matter how much I wished for it to. I would stay to torment me, to haunt me in my dreams only to let me wake to it facing me like a shadow, a cloud over my head. It would stay with me forever, like he had not.

I didn't think about where I was going. I just ran. I ran so fast everything blured together, though I'm not sure if it was from the speed or my tears.

The mist swirled around me as I ran. This world was cruel. This world that I had discovered; It had given me all I had ever wanted, turning me into a monster. Then it had taken it all away. And felt so horrible knowing what I did. Knowing what I felt. Knowing that it was all my fault.

Eventually I stopped. I don't know why, I wasn't tired or out of breath.  I saw a nearby stump and sat down hard on it and placed my hands over my knees and stared at them.  This has to stop i told myself. You can't live like this.

"But you will," the voice echoed around me. There was no person in sight besides myself.
"Who's there?" I called into the fog. No reply. "What do you mean?"
"You will live how you have unless you defeat your own will. But you will without will."
"Okay," I said to whoever was speaking to me. "You lost me at will. But I can't worry anymore. I can't watch myself in despair of what I have done in the past!"

The unseen person laughs and it sends chills down my spine. "What is it you want? You are a Forgotten now. You knew what you were getting yourself into. Why the sudden change of heart?"

"I can't do this to myself anymore!" I cried into the darkness. "I can't torture myself, like I have done to everyone else! NO MORE! Please?" But the person paid no heed to my sobs and screams.

"There is no going back." the voice laughed.
A loud snap came from behind me and I jumped back up. "No, no."
"Oh, yes. You might want to run now."

The sarcastic sneer that I could feel even though I couldn't see pushed me to my feet, and I ran again. I ran even though my side burned so badly I thought I was going to pass out. I ran even though I knew it would do no good. I didn't even know what I was running from. All I knew was that I ran. I ran because I had to.

It was gaining. Branches snapped and the  sky filled with birds taking flight. The beast was growling and snarling, but it was enjoying this game of cat and mouse.

Riding a new wave of courage, I turned around and faced the creature. If this was cat and mouse, then I wanted to be the cat. I ripped a sword from my belt and waited for it to emerge from the brush and jump me. But suddenly, it was silent. There was nothing behind me.
"Face yourself," the unseen voice spoke again. "That is what you have done. No go back to that pond and do it again. Face the beast you have become."
