Rocker style without going overboard?

DreamAngel posted this thread...

I'm a girl who likes my eyeliner and combat boots. Lately, I've been wanting to develop my own style as a way to express myself. I'm really into rock music, so I've been thinking of going the more rocker/leather route. However, I don't want to scare/turn people off. Is there a way I can express myself in this style without being totally labelled?

Who cares what people think? Wear what you like. I wear a lot of leather myself and own a pair of combat boots. I think Rocker style doesn't have to be all heavy metal, it's awesome because it mixes genres. You see people at rock concerts wearing cowboy boots or sports jerseys. It's a very loose term. I guess I would consider myself a rocker, because I go to rock shows and listen to rock music, but I'm in no regard a metal head, emo, or goth. They call me the Space Cowboy, because I mix bohemian western style with modern and edgy style. Leather and denim make up every single one of my outfits. The trick is to pair things that wouldn't typically work together, but match in some way, like by theme. Sometimes I'll wear cowboy boots, a short and bold sundress, a denim vest and a leather jacket. I also like skinny jeans and bootcut jeans as they go with everything. You should try fringed leather and suede. I have this vintage fringed jacket that is awesome! Rocker style is care free and edgy, you should check out some thrift shops, you would be surprised what you find. Not only are there vintage pieces, there are also worn boots, old leather jackets, band Ts for next to nothing, and jeans of every size and color of the rainbow (that you can also turn into shorts, a skirt, or a vest). Play around with texture and mix patterns, and don't be afraid of color.

You could totally go for the more alternative indie style. At Forever 21, they have a lot of that stuff in a section. i know that store is very girly, and whatever, but i get a lot of my stuff there for the alternative style. combat boots go a long way, too; you can wear them with dresses, shorts, or pants, or skinnies, like, it doesnt matter. leather jackets and bracelets seem to be very in right, now, so i dont think you'd be turning people off with that kind of style..

good luck with your style! i think you could rock it pretty well, if you dont overdo it. wear band t shirts, too. it'll add the spunk.

I think you should honestly try this store I found when I went to Chicago. It's called Wetseal they have a lot of cute stuff I think you may like. Yes, rockers do create their own style. It's great that you see this. You can also try Hottopic I'm not a fan of the store but they may have some stuff.
I'm more of a Alternative rocker chick I shop mostly at this store name Tillys they sell kinda more skater clothes. I also like PacSun they have some cute stuff its a little more on the surfer end. You can try those if you want.
And the person above me is right you may be able to find some stuff you like from Forever 21. Most the stuff I find there are neckleases, braclets, earings, and nail polish. But you can try it!
I know I replied late but its back to school time and look around! Good luck!!

I'm with Sorla on this one. Who the eff cares? Be you! If you want to look like Gene Simmons from Kiss go ahead. You'll definitely be the center of all the attention. But if that's you, so what? I think though there should be a limit perhaps. I think this style is cool. In proportion for me, not that I'm rockerish or whatnot. Classic rock shirts help too. Like Pink Floyd, Foo Fighters, Beatles, etc. I've seen them in many stores. They're pretty cool, even if people don't think so. My opinion: just be you! And have fun with it.
