My BFFs 16th birthday is coming up and i want to get her a cool new book as one of her gifts, but i don't know what to get her, she'll read just about anything but she prefers realistic fiction. does anyone out there have any ideas?

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.
It's not the most realistic of books I guess, it has a very odd plot. but it has a bit of everything in it. romance, action, mystery, history, gothicism...it's like all of barnes and noble in one book and it's amazing

Hopefully this isn't late. I say if she can handle some war gore "The Things They Carried" which is a very different book it has no beginning middle or end. There is also "Glass Castle" if she hasn't read that for school and such which is about a dysfunctional somewhat redneck family. If she likes some realistic modern fiction go for "Kite Runner"(a story about a young boy and his friendships in the Middle East)
