anyone else like steampunk (which is obviously more than a fashion)? How epic are those robotic weapon arms?
I ADORE steampunk. I would be an absolute steampunk queen if I had the money xD
YES. YES. YES.
You don't really need a lot of money. This year one of my sisters whent to Steamcon, and me, being the Crafter of the House, was recruited to make her costume. We made a lovely top hat made from scrap fabric, cardboard, glue, and a really old pair of motorcycle goggles we found in a stump. The only thing we really bought for it were ribbons for the hat, and my sister got some black lace fingerless gloves. She already had a coat and stuff for the rest fo the costume.
Next year will be trickier. She's going as a perpetually lost explorer...
A LOT of stuff ends up at the bottom of rivers. If you can get a strong magnet on a string, you could go "fishing" for supplies. :p Watches and stuff.
I think steampunk is so amazing! It's like art and history and machines all combined into one style. You have to be confident to pull it off though. Also creativity is very useful as Aeliss-Novak-the-Zombie said :)
My math teacher had a halloween party last year and she made a bunch of gears out of those wheel macaronis by painting them silver and bronze. I take apart old junk to get my stuff. I haen't found a sufficiant gun yet, though.
My sister told me that at Steamcon there were awards for the best weapons, and one guy had a flamethrower that actually worked. Apparently it shocked a lot of people. They didn't really approve of it working (health hazard), and said that next year none of the weapons were allowed to work. But he won anyway.
...Well, that was odd... O.o
I love steampunk. I plan to write a book in the genre, and I love the fashion, and everything else about it.
