((That sounds pretty good. :D ))
PT satrted, and as usaul the jocks satrted acting up. Their new victim was South. Max knew thsi would happen, South was a skinny kid withs cars, easy victim for the bullies.
"Hey scars, maybe if you actually worked out you wouldn't get beat up!" one shouted. Other insults were thrown. Theteacher didn't really do anything. When laps were run, one jock tripped South, the other steppe don his hands. Max ahd had enough,s he didn't liek South, but she liekd the jocks less,
"Hey!" she shouted, Stop being stupid jerks." she called marching over to where South had fallena the jerk was stepp on his hands. The girls had run their laps forst.
South let them hurt him in flinching silence. He was terrified, his eyes showed that. But his eyes stayed hidden behind a curtain of neon blue hair.
He bit his lip, feeling the silver ring in his lip as he did so.
But...but then, Max started to defend him.
He blinked in shock. She didn't like him. Why would she stand up for him?
"Aw do you like scar-boy?" The jock asked, not moving.
"No I don't..I really don't like him, but I like abusive, cowards less than him...now back off!" Max snapped angrily, she'd been surpressing her temper since it'd beens aid they were getting South, now she was about to explode, if the jock didn't move it would be the last straw.
South sat completely still. Though if you watched carefully, you could see his shoulders tensing, the muscles bunching as he felt the tension growing. He wriggled his hand slightly to see just how pinned down it was, to see if maybe he could escape.
He peeked up towards her, looking worriedly between the jock and the girl, watching and waiting for something to happen.
The jock laughed,
"Make me move, honey." he sneered. That was it for Max, she launched herself at the boy, pushing and making him fall over which freed South's hands, but she didn't care. SHe starte dto tussle and fight with the boy. Teacher ran ove rto pull them apart. When theyw ere finally apart the boy's mouth and nose were bleding adn he ha dthe beining of a black eye. Maxs hat and come off soem of her air ha dbeen pulled out and her nos eand left ear bleeding pretty badly. Both and other bruises were and there, but teh face wa sthe most notcieable.
South was quick to back away from the fight, wide eyed. He was starting to hyperventilate as memories surfaced for him, watching the violence.
He moved to the side and threw up when he saw the blood and bruises.
"I ain't your honey!" Max shouted, fighting against the teachers to get at the jock again. The Jock spat,
"Whatever." he siad,
"Maxine Olivia Bazin you are suspended for a week and Travis Richard Fairview youa re also suspended for teh asm eamount of time." The priciple who'd coem out said. he went back in to call the parents. Max and travis were both let go and told to go get their stuff. The nurse had come out adn check on them both too clenaing up the blood and then came over to South,
"Owen are you OK?" the hruse asked, squatting beside teh puking young man.
South grunted, wiping at his mouth with the back of his hand, lowering his head to hide from her.
"I...I don't like blood." He mumbled, trying to ignore the sour taste in his mouth.
He closed his eyes tightly, letting out a shaky breaths and moving a few steps away from everyone, even the nurse, trying to calm himself.
The nurse ha dlooked South over, he looke dfine so she didn't bother him. The PT teacher cancelled the rest of teh class adn sent everyoen in to cahnge, shower and get back to the classroom to finish the day up.
Max waited outside tehs chool for her mother or Stepfather to pick her up. She kenw her parents wouldn't be happy with her, she'd probably get extra chores.
South went through the day, keeping his head down, trying to avoid any incidents.
Eventually, school was over and he moved outside, taking in a shaky breath, hugging the backpack in his arms, tugging his sleeves down more. He shuffled rather than walked, head down.
Max had been splitting wood all day. She was tired, sweaty adn hungry. Her stepfather was angry she'd been susprneded for fighting and had made her start chopping wood as soon as she got home. She'd been allowed a five minute break to eat a sandwitch and had a large botle of water near by.
Max didn'tca re though, it was better thans chool she guessed, plus she wasn't about to epxlaine dto South whys he stood up for mhim.
She heard the truck leave, her stepfather was going to pick u South.
South waited outside the school to be picked up. He shuffled his toes on the ground, staring intently his shoes. He stood off to the side and hoped he wouldn't be noticed.
He couldn't wait for school to be over, and now he couldn't wait to be picked up and taken away from this place.
Absently, he scratched his ear and pushed his blue hair back slightly.
Amos pulled up the the truck next to where South was standing, he opened the passenger door by leaning over from the drivers sidde.
"Hello South, how was school?" he asked as he waite dfor the boy to get in so they could drive home.
South quietly climbed into the car, holding his bag tightly.
"School was okay." He mumbled, glancing over at him, then away quickly, not daring to make eye contact. He hugged the backpack, shoulders hunching forward unhappily.
"You don't sound OK, son, what happened at schoo today?" Amos asked, he'd only partially heard about the fight from the etacher. And just Max's part in it, not anythung else.
"Oh you'll be able to help with the horses when we get back Max is chopping all the wood. Have you ever ridden a hrose?" Amos added.
"Never sir." South said very quietly. "Some kids...some kids were making fun of me. No big deal." He mumbled, turning his head to the side and looking out the window so he wouldn't have to look at Amos.
"Bullying ain't cool, especially if no one stands up for you, kid. I'll see what I can do about it...and I'll have anoter talk with MAX about standing up for people...was she there when teh bulllying happened?" Amos asked, he was going to talk with Max either way about makings ure South wans't bullied, but he would be really amd if he found out she'd stood by and let someone get bullied, adn surpirsed becuase that wans't like Max, even teh angry and changed Max.
Amos parked in the driveway and shut teh car off.
"She...she stopped them." South whispered very quietly. He hugged the bag even tighter to his chest. "I'm used to it. It's just the way things are for me." He shrugged his shoulders.
Once the car stopped, he started to get out.
Amos rose his eye brows slightly. He wasn't sure what he expected, he knew he'd be mad and surpirsed if she ahdn't, but he was suprised she had after all she loathed South pretty much,
"OK, go put your stuff away and meet me at the horse barn." Amos said. He got out of teh car adn walke doff to get the rhoses ready, he needed to give the horses theri exercise plus he neede d to round the sheep up adn he was going to use teh horses tor ide out and rund them in.
