Firranda, relieved at Howard's understanding, was overcome with curiosity. If it wasn't...that..then what could be so important? She knew it would be romantic..she just had no idea what it was! "I'm sure it'll be wonderful," she cooed back.
I started laughing as I began to run, my hand still in Firranda's. I looked back with a big smile and started to run even faster, skidding through the hallways. When we reached the room, I took out a wornout gold key and placed it in the lock, turning it carefully. The lock clicked and I pushed the door open. "Welcome to the family library," I said with a big smile as I walked in and opened my arms wide.
Firranda gasped as she took in the library. She barely knew how to read and hadn't done it in recent years, but the luxury of it floored her. She would have time for this now..she would have time to read. "Howard, it's enormous...how many have you read?"
"Well, actually, these are mostly my mom's books and books that have passed down through the generations," I said as I admired all the books. It had been awhile since I had been in here last. "The really cool part is that I have a secret hideout," I admitted slyly as I pulled out a green encyclopedia and a secret passageway creaked open to the very left of Firranda. It was filled with all kinds of books that belong to me only, maps of the different parts of the world, a few sketches, and some parts here and there of random stuff I was building. Then, in the right hand corner, there was a desk covered in even more sketches and nuts and bolts, and then a bed in the left hand corner.
"Cliche, but still very cool," Firranda praised when the secret entrance was opening. She had always dreamed of things like this in old castles, but never seen one for real. She admired the random junk adorning Howard's secret nook. "This definitely isn't something I'd expect a prince to have..but it suits you." She returned to Howard's side and gave him a peck on the cheek.
"When I was younger, I always wanted to have one of these secret hideouts that I could go to whenever I needed to be away from everyone or just wanted to start drawing and come up with things in my mind. I secretly came up with a blueprint for this room and hid it in with the other constructions so that it was built without my parents knowing. I've been coming here a lot lately," I said as I looked around at all of my stuff admiringly and sat down on the bed, gently touching one of my newest creations that I had been working on for weeks.
Firranda noticed that Howard seemed to be fiddling with something and peered down at his hands to see what it was. "Is that something you made?" she asked. "What is it?"
I'm trying to make a little machine that will fly in the air with a remote control. I thought my little cousin would find it amusing," I said as I smiled slightly. "He never gets to spend any time with his parents because they're always busy, so I thought I'd make him something that he'd be amused by. Would you like to go back to the ballroom now? There's really not much to do in here," I commented as I stood up and looked around at my stash of books.
"How sweet," Firranda said, marveling at her fiance's kindness but secretly doubting it would work. Unless the prince used some kind of magic, which did not seem to be employed by this 'remote control', there's no way such a machine could fly in the air! Still, she thought, it was sweet of him to try. "Yes, I'd like another dance, if that's all right," she teased, smiling up at Howard.
I stood up and took the three steps that had me standing in front of Firranda. I moved closer and pushed her hair back with my fingers. I looked down at her to see what her reaction was. I put both of my hands on her hips and pulled her to me, putting my lips on hers.
Firranda, taken by surprise but knowing everything was fine, turned her head to accomodate Howard's warm lips. She coiled her arms around his shoulders, allowing her to press tighter against his body. Who needs the dance hall anyway, she thought to herself.
I smiled into the kiss as I sat down in the chair behind me, pulling Firranda onto my lap, never breaking apart once.
Firranda realized dimly that things were getting more passionate, and they had no distractions like they had other times, but she wasn't as wary as she felt before. This is ok, she thought, there's no reason to be afraid... Firranda squeezed her arms tighter around Howard, running her fingers through his short hair.
