Ember reached up and put her palm against his cheek, forcing him to look at her. "Ace, please, don't sacrifice yourself. I wouldn't be able to live with myself." She put her hands on his shoulders and pulled herself up so she could kiss him.
Ace placed one arm around Ember's waist, pulling her closer to him. His other hand rested comfortably in her hair, and for a moment, it was as if their bodies were melded into one. "Ember," he breathed in the midst of their kiss. Eventually, he pulled back and gently held her face a few inches away from his. "I would do anything for you Ember. I never want you to be sad because of me, okay?"
Ember looked up into his eyes, "if you don't want me to be sad because of you, then don't sacrifice yourself okay? No just don't be in dangerous postions. No, if you want me to not be sad over you then we have to be together forever somewhere right next to the sea." She smiled at him, "I'm okay, I'm used to it."
Ace bit his lip, and took Ember's hands in his, and placed them in his lap. "I can't promise I wouldn't do it for your sake Ember, but I promise I can try my best not to sacrifice myself. I'll try to say out of dangerous situations, but that will be hard while I'm on my father's ship." Ace joked lightly. He gave Ember's hands a squeeze and looked into her eyes. "I'd love to be with you forever."
Ember nodded and looked down. "Please don't. No matter who it is for, me or even someone else, don't sacrifice yourself." Changing the subject she said, "The Prime Minister hit me when I got back. He slapped me."
Ace nodded weakly, but didn't add anymore on the subject. When she told him about the Prime Minister, a sudden wave of anger washed over him. "I swear..." he growled. "If I ever meet that sorry excuse of a man he'll be dea.d. How could he dare do such a thing, you didn't do anything wrong!" Ace exclaimed with irritation.
Ember winced. "I don't remember what it was about or his reasons. it wasn't a happy encounter. He isn't the best of men." She sat reflecting on that for a momment, when she first had her job, she thought he was the best of men, that there weren't any better than him. Ember pressed against Ace's chest, she knew much better now. "You better not kill him, you'd be hunted for the rest of your life."
Ace sighed deeply and shook his head. "I can't say that if I saw him in person that I wouldn't try to ki.ll him Ember." he murmured, a low growl in his throat. "Lucky for you, I won't be running into him any time soon." he teased playfully. "If we both get out of here alive, it won't be easy." Ace exhaled deeply, and placed a gentle kiss on Ember's forehead.
Ember shook her head, "don't you dare Ace." She kissed him on the cheek and snuggled into his side. She quickly fell asleep like that.
Ace chuckled quietly and softly stroked Ember's hand. Eventually she fell asleep, and he did too. It was surely night time by now, he expected his father to come again in the morning.
Sure enough, Ace awoke to the sound of jingling keys, as if someone was trying to get into the room. He carefully and quickly shifted so that Ember lay alone on the floor, and he hid behind the chest once more.
Ember was deep enough asleep that she didn't wake to the sound of keys, nor to Ace leaving her side.
