James nodded weakly. "Well, if you're feeling guilty...you should apologize. And if you apologize, I'll forgive you."
"Apologize." Serephina emphasized each syllable like it was foreign to her. It clicked after a moment though and she nodded. "Oh. I'm sorry James." she spoke very formally when apologizing.
James rolled his eyes. "That's not a real apology. You have to be sincere, not just saying the words because you have to. You're obviously not sorry enough to really apologize." He shrugged.
Serephina tilted her head to one side. "You're kind of whiny. Like a sister I once had." she said quietly. It didn't seem that she knew how to have a filter. Serephina was blunt without taking other feelings into accord. Once the words were out she started to think about her family she no longer had and sighed, looking away from James in sadness.
James hesitated, biting his lip. "If I might ask...what happened to your family? Why are you all alone?" He asked in a very soft voice.
"Father put me on that island to keep me safe. Now that I've been captured I will be disowned." Serephina said quietly, she ran her fingers through her extremely long blond hair that was over her shoulder. Her bare back was facing James, spine a little too noticeable because of how her structure was. "No big deal..." she whispered even though it was major to her.
James shook his head, reaching and putting his hand on her shoulder. "No one deserves to be without their family, especially when that family is still alive." He mumbled. "If it means anything to you...I'm at least your friend."
Serephina instantly flinced away when James put a comforting hand on her shoulder. She took a chance and turned her face to look at him. "I suppose... I don't understand you though... I tried to eat you." she reminded him, feeling the warmth of his hand on her shoulder which made her relax a little.
James shrugged. "A man tried to kill me once, now we're the best of friends. Maybe this is just my wierd way of making friends." He laughed a little at himself. "I'm seriously probably going to get myself killed one of these days, but I don't actually care. I want to be who I am and not have to change."
Serephina pulled her soft shoulder away from James and turned to look at him again. "Yes you probably will get yourself killed one day." A smile touched her perfect lips though it wasn't all that happy. "I'm... Serephina." she told him, giving her name out for the first time to any human.
James smiled at her. "Serephina. That's a beautiful name." He murmured. "I guess it's fitting for such a beautiful Siren." He sighed, before he realized he'd been there a while. Everyone was probably getting up about now. He cursed under his breath. "I have to go, before I'm caught down here. I'll come back when I get the chance and bring more fruit, alright?"
Usually Serephina wouldn't have thought anything of the compliment. There were plenty other male sirens that knew she was beautiful. She had been a princess of the sea after all. And she knew she was attractive. But when James said she was beautiful a gentle red rose in her cheeks. "Thank you." she whispered, watching him ready himself to leave. "Okay." part of her wanted to beg him to stay and protect her from the captain or any other male that threatened to violate her but she was confused by this feeling in her chest where her heart sped up. She knew James needed to go do his work anyway.
James took her hand and kissed it with tender lips before he stood and left. He hurried to act like he'd woken and gone to duty early, grabbing a mop and swabbing the deck. He spotted the captain coming out of his cabin and breathed a slow breath. Any longer down there and he would have probably been caught.
When Serephina's hand was kissed she gasped quietly. "How interesting..." she whispered to herself once James had left. She used her other hand to brush the spot that James had shown affection to with care. Nothing like that had ever happened for Serephina before. Everyone was busy about their jobs when the captain came out of his bunk. Instead of going to each station and seeing that everyone was on task though the captain started to make his way down to the cellar where Serephina was.
James tensed when he saw the captain. He wanted so bad to stop the man and protect Serephina, but he had no power to. He'd be doing the Siren no good by being forced to walk the plank for mutiny. Still, he felt an ache in his heart when he thought of her being put through another encounter with the captain...
This time when the captain went down to have his way with Serephina there was no scream. It took no longer than five minutes for the ruffled captain to come back up, obvious of what he had done. Serephina was cramped in the corner by the time he'd gone back to his room, crying into the shirt James had given her to wear.
James tried to take an oportunity to slip down to see her, but he couldn't get the chance to, not with everyone around. So he worked all day, constantly thinking of her, waiting for the tiem when he could go to her.
When it came time for members of the crew to take a break from their duties they went down to get their lunches. When it was time for James to take his break the captain had one of his goons come to get him. "James. Captain wants ta see ya. Seems angry."
James tensed but nodded. "Alright." He mumbled, going to see the captain. He had a sick feeling in the pit of his stomach as he came to the door, hesitating. But he knocked. "Captain? You wished to see me?"
