The music began and Krissy tossed the rifle up and turned, dancing along with the music, performing the rutine she won Nationals with.
"I've settled in fine." Suki said quietly with a shy smile, pushing her glasses up on her nose, still clinging carefully to her precious violin case. "My roommate doesn't seem to have arrived yet, so I'm alone."
"Ah, that happens sometimes. While there are the students who come early, there are the ones who come late." explained Stella, "Heck, some have even come a week after classes start! But school's usually filled to the rafters, so they'll probably come soon. Be careful though; sometimes boys and girls wind up being roommates, since we have more girls than boys at the moment. We only went co-ed last year!"
"Really?" Suki bit her lip, now worried about ending up with a boy for a roommate. She hugged her violin closer, fingering the gently worn case lightly.
Stella saw Suki's expression and tried to comfort her. "Don't worry! It didn't really happen last year, but if it does, the bunks have privacy curtains. If somebody tries to get funny with you, let me know and I'll slug them into next week!"
Suki blinked. "Oh. Alright." She smiled a little more, putting a little more trust in Stella.
When the song was over Krissy put her rifle with her saber on the desk and opened the box, laying everything out on the floor so she could see everything she had. There was everything from flag silks to old uniforms to different colored tape.
"Hey, you wanna come in here for a minute? You might get to see a show." Stella suggested, pointing to the Color Guard room.
"Oh...um...Okay." Suki nodded, cautiously following.
Stella walked in and sighed. "Did we miss the big number?" she asked Krissy.
Suki watched quietly, hugging her violin case.
Stella gestured while she talked, "Krissy, this is Suki. Suki, this is Krissy."
"Hello." Suki bowed politely. Her British accent making the word seem prim and proper. She smiled shyly.
"Hi, Suki. It's nice to meet you. I can perform something if y'all want. I got plenty of rutines." Krissy said picking up her phine to flip through her music.
Stella nodded. "Sure, I'd love to see what you can do!" She turned to Suki. "What about you?"
"Me?" Suki blinked, instantly feeling self conscious. "I...er...Music..."
"Oh, come on!" earged Stella, "Just for one routine, and then you can go."
"I promise, you'll be glad you stayed!" Krissy said as she started a random song and grabbed her saber. When the music became she started with a simple blade toss and began to dance along gracefully with the music. As the suspense in the music built, her movements became more dramatic until the final hit when she tossed a 6 and caught it perfectly.
Stella watched contently until the song ended, then clapped. "Wow, you're good!" she cheered, "Do you know how many others will be on your team?"
Suki moved to clap her hands, but quickly remembered her violin case. She blushed and set it down very carefully to clap.
