Janie listened closely and heard something like crying. She crawled out from under the bed and opened the door, peeking out catiously. She didn't see anyone so she snuck down the stairs and saw MJ sitting on the ground and drying. Janie frowned, she'd been taught crying was bad and weak. Janie didn't cry much she screamed and got angry and scared, but she never cried when there wa sthe smallest chance of her being seen.
Wiping away her tears, Jess stood up. She brushed herself off. Looking at the clock, she saw it was not 7:00. She had to be at the station by 7:30. If they left now, they would barely make it! Jess shouted out to Janie, "Janie we're going to be late! We have to leave now, I'll meet you in the car!" she called. In a scramble, she grabbed her purse and everything she needed. She ran into the garage and got in her car. Then she realized, keys! She had forgotten her keys! Running back into the house, she frantically searched for her keys, but couldn't find them anywhere. She swore she had put them on the table near that window... The window! It was the one that had been shattered. Her keys had been on the table with the picture. The same person must have stolen her keys! Furious, Jess ran over to the phone. Dialing the station she spoke hurriedly, "I'm going to be late, my house was broken into."
Janie had been standing at the base of the stairs watching MJ run around in a confusion. She carefully went over to teh window and peered out, there was something glinting in the grass she crawled out, scratching her arms and legs with glass as she did so.
Jane knelt in the grass and broken glass reaching for the glinting thing, it wasn't glass, it was metal. She picked it up, it was the car keys.
"Janie? Janie? Where are you?" she called out, looking for the little girl. She ran throughout each room until she came into the room with the broken window. Looking out, she saw Janie kneeling in the grass and glass. "Janie, sweetie, what are you doi-" she stopped, noticing her keys were in Janie's hand. "The keys! You found them!" she cried out, pulling the girl in through the window and giving her a hug. "Thank you so much Janie. Let's get in the car now, I'm going to call a window repair company to fix our window." Jess stated hurriedly, dialing the number without explanation.
Janie allowed hrself too be pulled through the window, the hug made her want to squirm, but she didn't. Janie was still in her pajamas but she hurried to the car anyway and climbed in, waiting for MJ to come.
Janie inspected her PJs, theyd gotten torn from crawling through the broken window, her feet were bare because she hadn't put any shoes on, there were tiny cuts on the bottoms of them. Janie frowned and brushed her PJs off, tehre was also some ash from he rlittle escapade with the stove earleir. Janie scrunched her forhead up, she liked these PJs!
Jess made an appointment with the window repair company, and hopped in the car with Janie. Glancing in the mirror, she noticed Janie was still dressed in her PJs. "Oh Janie, do you want to change? Here, let me just grab you some shoes." she offered, running back into the house and grabbing a small pair of sandals and tossing them back to Janie. "Sorry for the rush, we have a lot going on down at the station, and I don't wanna be much later than we already are." Jess said, pulling the car out of the garage and beginning to drive.
(( Oh and in the Villains vs Heros thread, momo (aka Dani), was wondering if you could post as Memphis? Since we partnered up, she can't do much without Memphis :D ))
((Yeah I know, I'm just confused about that RP right now...))
Janie grabbed the shoes and put them on. She felt teh car accelerate down the road adn continued to brushed her PJs off, trying to make them look better and less beat up again. She really her pajamas and was rather sad to see them tor and stained. It wasn't a deep saddness though just an oh I don't like this type of things,
(( Sorry :( ))
Within half an hour, Jess pulled into the police station. She turned sharply into a parking spot, and unlocked the car. Getting out, she opened Janie's door, and walked into the station. When she walked in, no one was in sight. She decided to check on the conference room. When she jiggled the door handle, she discovered it was locked. Knocking, she called out, "It's Jess!" Someone opened the door, and rushed her inside. Jess held the door open for Janie, she wasn't about to leave the little girl alone. The chief nodded. "Sit down, we have some serious business to discuss."
Janie followed MJ in and into the conference room. She went and sat down on the floor in a corner so she would stay out of the way. She didn't realize how tired she was, noghtmare filled sleep wans't relaxing. Janie shifted so she was laying down, curled up in the corner and using her arm for a pillow closed her eyes and just listened to the conversation around her.
Jess sat down at an empty chair at the conference table. Looking to make sure Janie was alright, she asked, "What's going on? Have you found anything new with the arson cases?"
The chief narrowed his bushy eyebrows. "No, we haven't. Have you?" he questioned sternly.
Jess felt her cheeks begin to blush, her face a reddish tone. She was debating whether or not to tell them about the brand she had seen on Janie matching the symbol left at the arson crime scenes. "N-no." she finally answered, hoping it wouldn't get her into trouble.
Janie was listening to the conversation, she was worried that MJ would tell about her brand and relaxed when MJ didn't metion it. She kept her ears open though.
The Cheif took a deep breath,
"So the symbol FirƎ at each crime scene, each crime scene was a place where children do things, the orphanage, the day care, and the elementry school so far. The community is in turmoil, jess. We have cops heading out to places that be the next tar...." he was interrupted by the door bursting open, a young cop came in, his name plate said Yoseph.
"There's a fire...at the children's hospital the firemen are tehre now." the young cop said.
Jess listened intently, her eyes unable to meet the Cheif's gaze. Then a young officer stumbled in and delivered astonishing news. Jess whipped out her phone, and dialed 911. "Fire at the children's hospital!!" she practically shouted. she stood up and grabbed Janie's hand. Pulling her towards the door she exclaimed, "Let's go. We have to hurry!" She ran out of the conference room and hopped into her squad car. Once Janie was buckled in, she blared the sirens and sped off to the hospital. Smoke was billowing from the building, and rubble was falling. "Stay here, Janie." she stated, and ran up to one of the firefighters to help.
Janie stared at the burning buiding, fire fighters were coming out with children while others were fighting the fire. Janie heard children screaming, she listene dto police over the radio, theyw ere worried that this one, unlike the others might have fatalities.
Janie saw a shadow in a third floor window, no one else seeme dto see it, Janie opened the side door and suddenly bloted into the burninng building when no one was looking. She toook the stair, covering her face with her shirt as she ran up the stairs.
Janie found teh shadow, it was a child, probably a cancer patient Janie guessed because it was a little girl with no hair. Janie grabbed her hand, the girl was older than her but looked scared.
The firefighters ignored Jess for the most part. They just told her to stay outside and out of the way. Jess wasn't about to let that happen. There had to be hundreds of kids in that hospital, there's no way they'd be able to save them all. She ran inside, coughing as smoke streamed into her asophogus. Holding her arm over her mouth and nose, she found a flight of stairs that had less smoke than the main building. She took the stairs two at a time, until she reached the top floor of the building. As she ran down the hallway, the smoke fogged her vision. She opened doors to rooms, but found them all to be empty. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a shadow dart to the left a ways. Deciding the rooms were empty, she followed after it. "Hello?" she called out, and before she could say anything else, a hand was clamped around her mouth, and her hands were tied up. She began kicking, but the unknown figure scooped her up and carried her to an opened window.
Janie tugged the girl down the stairs, she glanced down a hall on the second floor and saw some sruggling figures near the window. Janie pointed to teh stairs and pushed the sick girl towards them, the girl seeme dto get the point and ran off down the stairs and out of the building.
Jane ran toward sthe struggling figures, it MJ and a taller figure, Janie came up and tugged at the taller figure's arm, trying to get him off MJ, the fiure turned and looked at her, Janie froze in horror for a few moments, terror obvious in her eyes, her mouth hung open and her eyes were wide.
After a failed attempt of struggling, Jess turned, and saw Janie standing nearby, mouth ajar, obviously in shock. She looked up at the face of the man who was carrying her. Immediately she recognized who it was. Her eyes began to water. It was her dad, he had found her and he obviously had something to do with this, and probably the rest of the arson cases. She did not cry, always remembering when she was little that he said, "Crying is for the weak." With a deep chuckle, he brought his daughter over to an open window. They were on the fourth story of the building, there was no way she'd make it out alive if he dropped her. She began kicking and screaming as loud as she could manage with a fabric around her mouth.
Janie seemed to shake the shock off for a few moments and kicked the man between the legs hard. The man dropped MJ on the floor and doubled up, collapsing n the ground, his hands covering the injured area and moaning. Janie tugged at MJ's hand, trying to drag her away, the little girl looked scared, like she was about to go back into shock.
"MJ!' she mouthed, her voice didn't seem to be coming.
Jess was a little disoriented after being dropped. She stood up and slipped out from the tie that had held her hands behind her back. In turn she then untied the rag from her mouth. Running she picked up Janie and held the rag over the girl's mouth to keep as much smoke out as possible. Looking back, her dad was still lying on the ground, twitching and moaning in pain. "Nice going Janie." she managed to cough out, and proceeded to exit the building. She knew her dad wasn't smart enough to expose himself, so he wouldn't give chase. But he was still out there, and she knew that she had to stop him. If she didn't he could destroy innocent childrens' lives. Within a few minutes, Jess made it to the first floor. The whole lobby and entrance was engulfed in flames, so she darted down a hallway and hopped out of a window, into a garden. She didn't stop running until she reached an area of safety. "Janie girl, are you alright?" she questioned as the building began to crumble.
Janie jumped out of MJ's arms and ran back to the police car, she climbed in the back and slammed the door.
Janie pulled her knees to her chest and pressed her forhead on them. breathing hard and coughing. Hed seen her, he'd seen her! She coughed and wheezzed, to scared to calm her breathing and still having smoke in her lungs. He was going to find her, he was mad, he was gonna find her adn she was going to be forced back. He didn't ike run aways, he really didn't like runaways...even if the running away wasn't nessicarily your fault.
