"Well then lets go get it." Walking next to Sam She found herself very glad that the strange boy stole her cap. "Are you any good?" shw wondered.
Sam chuckled. "One of the best, of course," he joked. "Nah, but I'm ok." he told her. They came to where the bow was and he took it out. "You can shoot first." he said, going to set up targets. "Let's see what you got." he called, smiling.
"How do you hold this thing?" She asked completely confused. "Sorry like I said this is my first time." looking down at the large and clumsy piece of weaponry in her hand she felt herself go red with embarrasment.
Sam chuckled. "It's fine." he told her. "Just do this." Raising the bow up, he drew the bowstring back to line up with his nose. He held a breath and fired, hitting the ring right outside the middle. "Like that. Try it out." he said, handing her the bow.
Alanna took the bow and did just as Sam had. When she released the arrow she chringed as it hit a tree a good 5 feet away from her target. "Ok that was pretty bad." She laughed nervously.
"Here," Sam said, holding her shoulder and the grip of the bow. "Line up like this, have a loose grip on the bow, and hold your breath when you shoot." he explained. "Now try again." he told her, stepping back a bit.
((Bump :) ))
Alanna did as she was told but wsa still not pleased with the results. "Okay I give up. take this thing before i hurt somebody." She thrust the weapon at him walking off a little ways. When she was certain that she was not gong to freak over something as silly as a bow she said, "You practice I'll watch." she said as she settled against a tree.
Sam sighed. "A bow might save your life someday." he lectured, drawing back and aiming at the target. After he fired, he continued holding the bow up. Dropping it, he exhaled. "See?" he asked, motioning to the arrow in the near-center of the target. "I still need to practice a bit myself.
Alanna laughed. His arrow was a lot closer than hers. " You are probably right but none the less I do not like that contraption. It is to awkward to use. I am perfectly content with watching you attempt i."
Gavin laughed too. "Well we'll see how your sword skills are in a bit." he replied. "Our practice session is in twenty minutes. Let's head up there." Offering Alanna a hand up, they turned and headed for the training yard. "I wonder which two senior knights are doin this session with us?" he wondered aloud. "It's so cool we get to spar with seniors right away." he added excitedly.
Alanna accepted his hand up. "You think its cool? I think it's suside." She fingered the hilt of her sword nervously "I'm going to let you do the talking if that is ok with you? I'm just not a people person."
He nodded back. "Sure." he replied. Walking up to the courtyard, they saw a man with a spear sparring with a girl wielding a pike. They were sparring intensely, both with grins on their faces. Sam interrupted with no hesitation. "Hey!" he called out. Both the knights stopped suddenly, turning to Al and Sam. "We're the new recruits here to train. Are you two our instructors?" he asked. The older boy walked up to Sam, shouldering the spear and offering a hand. "Yep, that's us!" he replied. "The name's Simon. This is Talia, and we're both members of the special weapons corps." he explained, introducing them. Sam shook his hand happily, and Talia offered Alanna a hand. "Hi, I'm Talia." she said with a smile. "You guys'll train with us today." Sam followed the two into the open space, Alanna next to him. "Well, we were hoping to just spar with you today, just to see what you both are capable of." Simon explained, turning around. "So let's go!" Hefting the spear, he waited for Sam or Al to take the first move. Talia followed suit.
Alanna grinned as she drew her sword and rushed at Talia before she could use any sense and go running for the hills. she had no clue what she was doing. her body naturally picked up the movement requiresd to wield a sword. before she knew it she was pivioting and striking against the knight. she felt her breathing regulate and the world around her disappered as she concentrated one attacking and blocking. "This is more like it." she muttered.
Talia smiled, her dense black braid swinging behind her. "You're a natural!" she commented, blocking the sword strikes with her pike's handle, then swinging the large weapon. Simon thrust the spear a few times at Sam, letting it go farther on the last one. Sam countered by holding his sword up and letting the spear slide against it, going past his right side. "Nice." Simon remarked. Sam grinned. This was one of his first spars, and it was amazing. Somehow, it seemed like he just knew how to move to counter and attack. It was amazing.
Alanna didn't last long against Talia. Before she knew it she was sweating and making more and more mistakes. with one last swing her sword was 10 feet away lying on the ground and Talia had her weapon prepped for a death blow. "Okay okay I conceede." Alanna said with a shaky laugh. Talia laughed a little bit as well. "Not to incrediably bad for a raw beginner." They both then turned their attention to the other match going on. Alanna could only stare at the grace at which simon could wield his spear. "Wow." she muttered
Sam was breathing heavily, trying desperately to block Simon's attacks. Simon didn't even look winded, spinning the spear and attacking relentlessly. Sam tryed to block a powerful thrust to his midsection, but he yelled as it pushed past and glanced off his right shoulder. "Ouch." he muttered, grinning. Simon offered him a hand. "Nice job." he told Sam with a smile. "Since you guys definitely need some work." Simon said. "Some more than others..." Talia whispered to Alanna, jerking a thumb towards Sam. "We can teach you guys form and attacks." he finished, shooting Talia a glance. "So how does that sound?" he asked. Sam looked to Al and nodded. "Sounds good to me." Sam declared.
Alanna didn't laugh at Talias joke. herr face was a complete mask of indiference. "Whatever you say we need to do then we must do it." Alanna walked over to her sword and picked it up. "So what exactly is it that we are supposed to do then?"
Simon stepped up to Sam. "First off, are you a two-handed swordsman?" he asked. "Yes, normally." Sam replied. "Ok, loosen up your form just a tiny bit. You're a bit tense in your shoulders, so that'll make you a little more versatile. Talia'll help you with the rest." Walking over to Alanna, he motioned for her to hold her sword in battle position. "You show a lot of potential, but you need to learn how to parry thrusts and pole weapons. I'll train with you."
Alanna blushed red at his comment about her lack of parring skills. "I've only had practice with a tree and a cat before. niether really founght back." With one nervous look at Sam she prepared herself to defend against simon. Talia started by repositioning Sams feet and his girp, before giving him permission to attack her.
