Sam chuckled again. "Same place." he replied matter-of-factly. "I'm also becoming a knight." He tapped the sword at his side. "So what's your name, and where'd you come from?"
Alanna was suprised that she was flad that Sam was going to the same place. "Well like I said I'm Alanna. most people call me Al. I don't see how it matters where I came from just so long as I know where I'm going." Looking him over she couldn't picture him as a knight. "You don't exactly look like warrior material. you're all skin and bones."
((Sorry, I'm stupid, forgot about the names...))
Sam gave her an annoyed look and jerked a thumb at a cart full of bricks. "You see that?" he asked. "That was this mornings work. Baking and hauling bricks. All morning." He turned back to the road and continued walking. What about you? I don't see a sword on that belt."
Alanna clapped a fake bravo but then hung her head hung her head. "I don't actually own a sword yet, but I can use one. I used Da's all the time when I was little. Haven't touched it since I was 9 though. I use this to get by." She held up a dagger with a 3 inch blade and a small curved handle.
Sam chuckled. "Whoa, careful with that," he mocked, poking the dagger end. They walked up to the knight academy and Sam sighed. "It was difficult to come here, but it's nice to have a, well I guess, friend to do it with." he remarked. "So are you going to get a sword from the academy or get your own at the blacksmith's?" he questioned Alanna.
"A friend... huh never had one of those before." right there and then Alanna decided to go ahead and be friends with this odd guy. "As for my sword I was going to get one from the blacksmiths. They would probably have a better selection."
"Yup." Sam replied. "Airifet's blacksmith is known for his swords." He peered up at the ash-covered sky. "Well do you want to enlist first or visit the smith?" he asked. "I'm good with either first."
"Okay well I'm sure the enlisting is going to be the wierder of the two so lets go with that." She started guiding her pony towards the stables. "It's okay Cloud you can rest soon girl." She muttered stroking her pony's face.
Sam gave the stable hand a silver and walked with Al to a spot where they could put Cloud. "Well, you're right I bet." he agreed. "We'll get you a sword after."
Alanna unsadled Cloud and brushed her out before giving her a sugar cube and closing the stable door. "I'll be back girl. You be good but kill anybody who messes with my stuff." She stroked her nose one last time before turning to Sam."Ready to go sell our lives away?"
Sam chuckled. "I like the way you think." he said with a smirk. The two headed out of the stable and to the academy. Walking up to the enlistment officer, Sam put his hand on the table. "I'd like to enlist please." he told the man.
The man laughed. "Well now is that so? You sure your up for it? I mean you wern't man enough to do it yourself you had to bring along a friend." He chuckled and twittled his fingers at Alanna. Her face went into a rock hard mask.
"Actually sir I am here to enlist as well." She said in a cool voice that even she could tell did not belong to her.
"Shut up," Sam growled, annoyed. "I only haven't enlisted yet because I've had so much work to do." The man chuckled again. "Ok, name?" "Samuel Reeds." "Age?" "16." "Reason for enlisting?" "I want to become a knight, duh." The man looked at Sam, irratated, and shuffled some papers. "You're good to go. Just talk to the knight commander and you'll be a knight trainee." the man said. "Thanks," Sam muttered.
The man then turned to Alanna. "You sure you wanna do this little girl?" Alanna laughed. "Thats why I'm here." "Okay well Name?" "Alanna Stover." "Age?" "16 as of yesterday." "And reason for joining?" Alanna thought for a moment before replying. "In short I want to serve her royal majesty."
Sam waited for Alanna to get done before going to talk to the commander. "Yeah, they ask you those simple questions while they write down your features and what you might be good at." he told her. "Let's go talk to the knight commander."
"Okay lead the way knowing me i'd get us lost." Alanna folded her arms across her chest and fallowed along beside Sam. "What do you think the commander will be like?" she asked.
"I've met him once before," Sam said, looking forward. "He's quite old, but in really great physical condition." They continued down the hall. "He's actually a nice guy, but if he asks for silence or calm, everyone stops and listens. No one disrespects him. Ever."
"Wow he sounds like a perfect leader." Alanna absently started to bite her thumb nail. trying to hide her nervousness. "I hate meeting new people."
((Sorry for not posting last night...)).
"It's ok," Sam reassured her. "He's probably pretty nice. I think." The two continued down the hall and came to a door labeled "Commander's Quarters". "Well," Sam sighed, "let's do this." As he pushed open the door, it creaked slowly and they stepped in.
