Darius continued walking down the hall a ways more. Up ahead, he noticed Alex talking with some girl. He hadn't seen her before, so she must be new. He definitely would have noticed this girl if he'd seen her before. Watching as Alex was talking to her, he could tell the boy was making the moves on her. For some reason, he was jealous and he didn't know why. He turned around and opened his locker, keeping one eye on Alex and the new girl.
"It's okay, I guess," Kristina said, glancing at her schedule. Why couldn't she stop blushing?
Alexander looked at the blushing girl. He smiled sweetly before turning his head around. He noticed Darius looking at him. He smiled a sly smile and nodded to him in a friendly fashion before turning back to the new girl. "We might have classes together. What's your schedule like besides 'nice'?"
Ailith practically wrapped herself around Ray's arm. She nodded as the walked, but just slightly, as if she was nodding to invisible music. But she always did this between classes. She and Ray walked into first period and sat in the back, one seat away from the corner but in the dark left area. It was their usual seating for every class except history.
Rays set her backpack on teh floor, she was one of the few students who didn't really keep her stuff in her ocker no matter how heavy it was, she didn't trust lockers, they could be broekn into too easily, when stuff was in her backpack she could keep an eye on it.
Rays gently adjusted Ailith's grip on her arm so it wans't cutting off circulation than she sat back,
"'Ere's a new girl at school." Rays whispered to Ailith, she described the girl who'd asked her for directions earlier today.
Ailith let go a little and started to tighten her grip again, but then remember that she was probably hurting Rays. She looked up when Rays spoke to her. She took in some air and held her breathe for minute, her usual routine when she was thinking hard about something. Then she exhaled and nodded. "The girl HE was looking at?," she asked, referring to Darius.
"Yeah her." she responded to her friend. Class was about to start, Rays bent over and pulled her notebook out of her backpack and a pencil. She also pulled out a neon yellow cuff braclet wth neoon pink heart outline son it. She handed it too Ailith,
"Found 'is the o'er day in a dumpster, cleaned it off, 'ought ya might like it." she said holding it out.
"Algebra 2, American Lit, World History, Chemistry, and Spanish 2." Kristina rattled off the list of classes. "What about you?"
Darius listened as the new girl rattled off the list of her classes. Hmm chemistry.. he thought. He had chemistry as well this year. Maybe they'd be in class together. As Alexander looked his way, Darius nodded back in a somewhat friendly manner. He pretended to fiddle with his locker combination, all the while listening in on their conversation.
Out of the corner of her eye, Kristina noticed another guy at his locker. This wasn't so surprising, except for the fact that he had been standing there aimlessly for a few minutes before turning to his locker.
Ailith took the bracelet and slipped her arm through it. She held her breathe for a few seconds, then breathed out an, "oh....!" Ailith smiled gratefully at Rays and then looked at her almost completely empty backpack. She didn't have much. Then she pulled out her notebook and opened it to a blank page.
"Wow!" Alexander sighed, "You're pretty smart for a sophomore, I'll give you that. I'm in Spanish four, so if you need, feel free to ask for tutoring." The warning bell rang and Alexander stood up straight. He winked at Kristina and spun around to go to his first period: Study hall. As he walked he passed a group of girls and without turning around he winked at them, and walked on by.
As Alexander strode off to first class, Darius slammed his locker door shut and made his way over to the new girl. "You new around here? I don't remember seeing you here before!" he said smoothly gazing into her eyes.
"Thank you!" Kristina called after Alexander. The Locker Boy approached her. "You new here?" He asked. She glanced up at him and smiled. "Yep, new and clueless."
Rays gave a quick smile to Ailith, she wa sglad her friend liked it, Rays usaully couldn't give gifts to people, she barely had enough to get by on her own, but now and then she found some nice trinket for her friend.
Rays was ;eft handed, which was why it was easy for her to sit next to ehr friend and allow Ailith to hold her right arm. Class was starting now, Rays looekd forward to the front of the class.
Ailith copied down notes without even looking down. It was something special about her, she was really used to having her hands full and writing without looking. She usually filled up every margin, ever space before she casually flipped the pages. She didn't even really need to focus on work, she more often focused on the warm pulse of Rays' arm.
Rays wasn't as talented as Ailith and she slightly hunched over her paper writing sloppily and slowly to take notes, she glanced up athe board. Rays was trying hard to keep her grades up, but it was difficult given her home life, she glanced at Ailith's notes as she herself kept writing notes.
Rays went back to focusing on the lesson at hand.
Alexander sat in his studyhall scribbling in his notebook. He used his thumb to smudge something. He shook his pen to squeeze out that last bit of ink. He sat back to look at his paper. Quickly he crumpled it and threw it away. He took out a new pen and scribbled until that pen was empty as well. This picture was of the new girl, Kristina. Alexander ran his fingers over his near-bald head and stared down at the picture. He rubbed his eyes. "Stop," he whispered angrily to himself.
Ailith often found herself distracted in class. As she wrote, she lifted her eyes to a poster and began to nod her head as she counted the numbers of letters on it, like every Monday. There was seventy-eight total. She continued writing. She'd let Ray copy her notes later.
Darius laughed and held out his hand. "I'm Darius, nice to meet you." Leaning against the wall beside her he glanced down at her schedule. "Looks like we might have some classes together, what do ya have first period?" he asked as the late bell resounded throughout the school.
