Prologue

Jack checked to make sure his holster and badge were secure before stepping inside the house, motioning for the other officers, Wiley and Thiel, to follow. From the outside, it appeared to be an average sized, single story, fairly kept house that had been painted in an unfortunate shade of yellow.
Jack wasn’t entirely sure what it would be like inside, but from the photos and reports he’d seen from the crime scenes, he knew that he had to be on guard. Simon Roberts had ruthlessly slaughtered seven people, at least, seven that the Chicago Police Department knew about. It was disgusting, what he’d done to those people. Five women, two men, beaten to death and then ripped open, their insides torn out and strewn across the ground. They were all completely naked, and mauled past recognition. Some you couldn’t even tell gender just by looking at them anymore.
He shuddered, remembering the photos. He was going to catch this guy. Though, if he was being honest with himself, which he generally was, he’d rather Roberts fight back. He’d rather put a bullet in his brain.
A quick glance around the entrance to the house revealed a clean, tidy kitchen with little in the way of edibles. One of the light bulbs behind their white glass cases needed replacing. Jack motioned with two fingers to his men to search the hall to the right, while he went left.
There was another hall this way, and the symmetry of the building unnerved Jack. Now that he thought of it, the front of the house had been symmetrical, and so had the kitchen. Even the oven and the sink were in exactly the middle, on opposite sides.
He heard a bang of a door being kicked in, and a shout from Jefferson’s team at the other end of the house: “Clear!” The shout was echoed by Thiel a little closer.
Jack flung open another door and scanned the small room inside. It was spare bedroom, by the looks of it. Again, empty. He lowered his gun and turned to go, but something in the back of his brain stopped him. Something wasn’t right…
There. The entire house was perfectly symmetrical. So was this room. Except for the Kelly-green rug in the center, which had had its bottom right corner scrunched, as if it had been shoved and not straightened. He grabbed the rug and pulled the corner back farther, revealing a small trapdoor. A basement, perhaps?
“Wiley!” Jack called out to his partner as he pulled open the hatch and shone his light down. A wooden staircase led down into darkness.
There was a soft footfall behind him and, from the gait, he could tell immediately that it was Wiley. “Cover me.” He said, stepping into the hole, his Glock 22 ready. “I’m not sure what’s down here, might as well be safe.” Jack Ashford wasn’t afraid of the dark, by any means, but there was no way he was walking into a dark basement in a known killer’s house without backup.
His booted feet hit solid concrete. Gun and flashlight up and ready, Jack turned, scanning the dark room.
A shadow suddenly appeared in front of him, and he ducked just in time to avoid getting hit in the head with a metal pipe. Wiley shouted something behind him, but he didn’t hear, too focused on the fight at hand.
The figure swung again, and this time the pipe found its mark. Jack yelled in pain as the delicate bones in his right wrist shattered, and his gun and flashlight both hit the ground. The gun went off with a bang, and the light went out, plunging them into total darkness.
But only for a second. An overhead bulb flickered to life, and Jack just barely had time to note that it was exactly in the center of the ceiling before dodging another blow. His attacker – a tall man, approximately forty years old and slightly balding - was definitely Roberts.
The pipe whistled past Jack’s ear as he dove forward, swinging his left fist into the murderer’s face. Roberts swore and staggered back – directly into Wiley’s waiting arms. The lanky young man caught Roberts in a headlock and knocked the pipe from his hands, obviously still trying to subdue him, rather than just shoot him. Or maybe he just didn’t want to risk hitting his partner on accident.
Whatever the reason, it gave Jack enough time to lunge for his gun. He straightened, aiming the gun directly at Roberts’ heart, and yelled at him to get on the ground.
A knife flashed as Roberts drew it from a pocket, and Wiley yelped and doubled over, clutching at the wound in his side. Roberts jerked his elbow back, catching Wiley under the jaw and knocking him to the ground.
Jack fired. Roberts stumbled, a psychotic grin plastered to his face and three bullets in his chest. And then he fell, stone dead.
Jack, clutching his broken wrist to his chest, knelt by his partner and peeled the stained material of his shirt away from his side. Wiley seemed to be unconscious, but from the blow to his jaw, not blood loss. The knife hadn’t gone in very far, and it was a minor wound.
A piercing scream made him jump for his gun again. His left arm snapped up, ready to pull the trigger at a moment’s notice. But for Jack, Wiley, and Roberts’ body, the room had been empty just a moment ago, of that he was positive. Something slammed into his chest and he toppled. His head slammed into the floor and he saw stars.
The woman was still screaming. “Murderer! You killed my husband! Simon…” Her voice was chocked with so much grief that, even though she’d just shot him, Jack felt sorry for her. His left hand scrabbled to find his gun and his lungs heaved, trying like a beached fish to drag in a breath of air.
“You will pay.” The woman’s face came into view, beautiful and smooth, but contorted into a mask of rage and pain. Odd, Jack thought, no wife was mentioned in the briefing. He’d probably have to yell at someone for that, if he survived. “I will take everyone you love from you, as you did to me.”
    Everything went black.

Sorry for the length, I was in a typy mood. :p So basically, there’s this police officer who kills the wrong guy and gets himself cursed. His wife (your character) can’t touch him without causing him intense agony, or even killing him.
After discovering this, he leaves. Just disappears from the hospital in the middle of the night, leaving his wife and three-year-old son to go find the person who cursed him.
Until, three years later, someone starts trying to kill his family. He comes back to protect them, without having found the woman from the basement.
Feel free to make secondary characters and stuff. Like friends, coworkers, family members, neighbors, etc. And just sos you know, I am very busy lately, so I may disappear for a day or two occasionally, at least until I’ve fixed up the chicken coop and stuff.

Rules:
1: Dedicated. I don’t mind if you disappear for a few days every so often, just don’t drop out. *hammers this into your brain* NO DROP OUTS. DROP OUTS STINK. No offense, but they do. XD
2: Literate. Don’t spell like my niece, and USE COMMAS. Really, commas are great.
3: Commas are really great.
4: Profanity is alright, but don’t go overboard.
5: I don’t do se.x scenes. Not that that will really be a problem, with the whole searing agony any time they touch, but you know. ;)
6: Realism is nice. People generally don’t survive decapitation, and you can’t light a brick on fire.

((Oh, and this is a 1x1 in case you couldn't tell. :) ))

Name: Jackson Emile Ashford
Age: 27
Appearance: He’s around average height, if just a little tall, at 5’11 ½”, and narrowly built. Though lean and angular, he’s also quite fit and has well-toned muscles. His skin is deeply tanned, with distinct tan lines on his arm and around his neck where his customary short sleeved T-shirts block the light.
He has deep green eyes bordering on hazel, and pitch black hair that would curl if he let it grow past his usual buzz. Sharp, angular features contrast with his strong jaw.
Personality: Jack is very straightforward, bordering on painfully blunt sometimes. He looks a situation in the face and doesn’t hide from it. If he doesn’t like it, he fixes it, rather than running away.
He hates to accept failure, and is extremely determined and quite stubborn, often annoyingly so. Most people only see the strong, steadfast, grim side of him, but a few people, like his family and his partners, see his teasing, more playful side. His wife and son always bring out the best of him. He’s extremely loyal, so when he disappeared it shocked everyone.
Bio: Jack grew up as the older brother to a sister, Charlotte, with his parents. His father passed away five years ago from an aneurysm. His mother is still alive, living in a small house about a dozen miles away from Jack’s house. When Jack was a kid he was a boy scout for about three years.
He joined the PD when he was twenty, and had been totally loyal to them ever since, until the day he disappeared. . He had a concussion and had lost blood at the time, so some thought that maybe he was delirious. When he didn't come back and no one could find him, rumors started to spread.

((The laws of physics were made to be broken.
Not particularly. Just a bit about her childhood, family, and maybe some of what she's been doing since Jack left. But that last bit is optional, 'cuz Jack wouldn't know that.))
