"I love you too Zula." Damien murmured. "Do you want some water?"
Zula carefully shook her head, but winced at the feeling it gave her. "No thanks..."
He ndoded, lying down beside her. "Get some sleep, okay?"
Zula cuddled into him, her fingers gripping his shirt. "Mhmm..."
Damien kissed her forehead, holding her close.
It wasn't long till Zula fell asleep, and for a while she didn't even dream, but eventually that dreamlessness became a nightmare.
Damien knew she'd have nightmares. All he knew to do was hold her close and hope it to end.
Soon Zula awoke crying into his shirt, gripping at it tightly. Why was he always too late?
Damien stroked her hair, saying nothing.
"Every time..." Zula whispered, trying to stop her tears but mostly failing.
Damien winced. "I won't be if I get another chance..." He whispered.
Zula opened her eyes to simply stare at his chest. "I trust you..."
Damien kissed her head. "I promise, I'll never be late again...only in your nightmares where you let me be late will I be late."
Zula hiccuped a little, but nodded. "Can I h-have a kiss..?" she whispered with a small sniffle.
"If you want..." Damien murmured.
Zula carefully pressed her lips to his, letting her eyes close again.
Damien kissed back tenderly, cupping her cheek with his hand.
Zula finally relaxed, her grip on his shirt loosening a bit.
Damien broke the kiss and sighed. "I love you Zula. I will do whatever it takes to protect you."
"I trust you," Zula murmured, nodding and softly playing with his hair. "And I love you too."
