Tom sighed. "Yeah, I'll take you to go see him when the hospital allows it." Then he froze. "You know that you had nothing to do with his accident right? It was not your fault that he is a hopeless drunk particularly around this time of year. It was not your fault that I was to eager to start a fight and get arrested and it wasn't your fault that he got behind the wheel like that. Promise me that you will not hold yourself responciable. Please?"
"Ok, but you have to do the same," Charolette said with her back turned to him, not trusting herself to look him in the eye. She thought about taking Fantasia with her, but realized she had no way to hide her, and she seemed busy enough keeping vigil over Tom. Through a veil of silence, Charolette began trekking back to her home where her surely anxious parents waited.
Tom shrugged "Yeah, Yeah whatever you say." He strted walking off in the direction of the hospital when he realized that Fantasia was fallowing him. "Oh yeah I almost forgot about you little girl." Not really knowing what else to do he headed in the direction of his house.
Charolette started surrendering to her building guilt on the way home. In all the chaos, she hadn't contacted her parents at all. As usual, when she entered the house, they didn't even so much as look at her. They both were looking down at their books, but Charolette thought she saw her mom hoding back tears. Fine. They didn't want to talk to her, why should she apologize? She harumphed up to her room, closing the door angrily.
Tom walked back to his house. When he got there he set ousome meat for the dragon before going to bed not bothering to eat himself. Just before he laid down on his bed he opened the window incase Fantasia needed to releave herself.
Charolette threw herself on the bed, not sure whether to cry or scream. She had thought, hoped, even, that this much of a disturbance might break their forced bubble of ignorance, and yet they still wouldn't approach her. Were they that timid, or had she just finally gone past the point of no return? Against her better judgement, she did something she had never done before: Sit in the living room with her parents.
((sorry, Charolette kinda got herself into some family issues....You want our characters back together right away, or give them some space? Either is fine with me, we can do a time-skip or whatevy-whatevs.))
((I get the family issues thing lol I think everyones been there done that. We can do whichever i have absolutly no plans for this and i am just winging it. I you want to go into her family issues then be my guest. either way it will be entertaining.))
Though he tried Tom couldn't sleep. He was tired all right and he reall needed sleep but for reasons unknown to him his brain refused to shut off. so he lay there tossing and turning for what felt like hours on end.
((ok, whenever Tom gets a little bored then :3))
Her parents stared at her, unsure of what was going on. Charolette took a deep breath, and said, as calmy as she could. "I'm not going to yell at you. I need you to be strong, please, for me. Everything in my life has been turned upside down, and I need to be able to count on you to be my parents. So please, put down those books, look me in the eyes, and tell me what you really feel."
((so, I'm thinking next post her parents'll chew her out, they make up, yadda yadda.
Anyway, if you have no other plans, I was thinking of advancing the dragon-plot a little, something about discovering how Fantasia got there? After you tie up any loose ends with Tom and his father, of course))
((Toms dad will be easy enough to tie up the loose ends lol. but furthering the dragon plot would be awesome. Maybe the go to try to return her to her family?))
Tom soon gave up on sleep. quickly getting dressed he went to find Fantasia. She was sitting on the couch starine at the blank television set. "You know it works better with electricty?" Tom laughed picking up the remote he turned on some documentary on lizards. "There you can learn about them for a while." he patted her head then laughed once more at the new look of wonder and intrest in her eyes. with that he went out of the front door and started running in the direction of the hospital.
((That's just what I was thinking! Like they find an book or a magic-user or something that shows them how to get there? Or Fantasia somehow tells them (or has a homing device?) idk.))
Charolette's mother retained her mouse-like qualities while her father stood up angrily. "How could you leave for so long? Do you know how worried we were?" He started to look a bit overwhelmed, so Charolette gave him an encouraging nod. "And," he continued nervously, "that....means....so internet for a month?"
Charolette nearly sobbed with joy. Hugging her dad, she whispered hoarsley, "Now you just need to tell me to go to my room." While in his embrace, she saw her mother with a rare, genuine smile.
(( I like the book idea best haha.))
The run to the hospital took Tom a good 20 minutes to complete. When he got up to his fathers room, there were about a dozen doctors in white coats packed into the small room. "What's happening?" Tom panted as loud as he could. "Whats wrong with my Dad?"
((me too :D who do you want to find it? I could have Charolette find it while Tom's with his dad))
Charolette was ecstatic as she went to her room. The gnawing guilt of past years had finally melted away, leaving a painful but still comforting emotion she now knew as love. Or maybe she was just relieved she didn't have to worry about Fantasia that night, it had begun to tire her out. She laid down on her bed to think things over, but instead fell asleep immiediately.
((Charlotte can find it that is perfectly fine with me 8D))
None of the doctors would answer him as they moved briskly around the room. Finally a nurse led him out of the room to the hall. "Your fathers heart in trying to give out. We are doing everything we can to keep it going but his body is giving up." Tom nods like a bobble head listening but not really hearing her words. Without really realising what he was doing he sat down with his back to the wall and his knees to his chest making small rocking motions.
((Sry, guess Charolette went to bed...mind if I skip to the next morning? You can keep Tom at whatever time he is in. Tell me if this doesn't work :P))
The next morning, Charolette woke up to hot breakfast and beaming parents at the table. No more lonely, frozen waffles for her, apparently. They entered a lukewarm but comfortingly conversation of petty, somewhat engaging topics, until Charolette was struck speechless by her father's comment on the newspaper.
"New addition to the library yesterday. Heh, they say they found those books in the woods, you believe that? Probably just trying to raise hype for the-"
"Does it say what type of book?" Charolette asked. Books appearing in the library seemed almost as unrealistic as what she and Tom had found yesterday.
Her father was surprised. "Sure. Uh...fantasy. Some kind of old legend."
(( Haha its all good we will just make tom pass out from allof the stress.))
Tom was still rocking on the floor in the hall when a nurse came back to find him hours later. gently s she could she raised him by his arm though his body screamed in protest. finally colapsing on the chair in his fathers room now clear of doctors he fell in to a deep dreamless sleep. not waking until the morning.
Charolette hadn't been to the library in years, but she still had her library card with a six-year-old's scrawl of what she guessed was her name, not that even she could tell. Sure enough, old tomes took up the commons area of the library, boxed in glass viewing chambers. Something told her she wouldn't be able to simply check these chronicles out, but the watercolor picture of a dragon, not unlike Fantasia, convinced her that it would be worth the risk to try and steal it.
((bumping :D but not trying to offend you or anyhting, I've taken WAY longer to reply, just so I don't lose this ;) ))
((Sorry I was internet-less for the weekend but I'm back))
When Tom woke in the morning he ran from the hospital to check on Fantasia. Walking into the Living room he could see her small form curled up on the sofa. "Hey girl you ready to go find Charlotte?"
Charolette tried her hardest to force the nagging thought of stealing out of her head, but it was no use. No matter how she reasoned it, she would have to steal that book: It was on display only, there was no chance of her being able to look at it. She decided to try calling Tom to tell him what she had found.
As he left the house Tom pulled out his phone and dialed what he thought was Charlottes number. Putting his phone to his ear it was answered on the first ring by a guy speaking fluent Chinese. "Sorry wrong number." Closing the phone tom sighed and sat down on a tree stump in his yard hitting his with his phone.
