"I..um..I um...no..." Mandy's cheeks flushed and she instantly pulled her hands away. For a moment, one of the loose sleeves of her sweatshirt pulled up, for just a second.
"Alright. We're here." Aaron held open the door for Mandy.
Mandy nodded and walked in, avoiding eye contact as she hurriedly pulled her sleeve down over her scarred wrist. She kept her gaze down, on the floor.
The principal was leaning against a wall, checking her watch. "Just barely made it. Alright, rules. No talking, eating, drinking, or horseplay. You can study if you want, and you're staying for an hour. Got it?" Aaron nodded his head and picked a seat at the back of the class.
Mandy nodded and picked a seat as far away from Aaron as possible without actually sitting in the front. She tried not to look at him, or think about him. She sat down quietly, hefting her backpack along with her. An hour. She could manage an hour.
Theprincipal took a book and sat down at the desk to read it. Aaron just sat there twirling his dumbs and trying not to stare at the clock.
Mandy sat at the desk, and tried not to think about sharp things. She stared at the scuffed toes of her boots and silently started to pull her knees up to her chest, quietly folding her already tiny frame even smaller.
((Sorry, school has been a bit mean lately and has given me a lot of work to do. I'll try to most more often.))
Tick tock, tick tock. Would the clock ever go faster or was he doomed to spend another 50 minutes sitting here, trying not to look forward and apologize?
((No worries, life has me swamped too. :) ))
Mandy's mind wandered to the little shoebox of various blades she kept under her bed, and her grip on her knees tightened.
No. No. She wasn't going to think about that. Not here, not now.
It was almost annoyingly quiet in the room. Aaron nervously tapped his foot, trying to bounce some sound around.
Mandy listened to the sound of Aaron tapping his foot and flinched. Her thoughts started to wander from the happy, bouncy, colorful thoughts she was trying to focus on and moved back to Aaron, then back to her blades.
"I'm going to go check on something for a second. You two, well I doubt you'll do much. Just sit there and be quiet until I get back," The principal took long strides out of the room, in an obvious hurry.
Mandy just looked up and nodded, running a hand through her spiked up hair. She glanced back at Aaron, then ducked her eyes forward, wishing she hadn't looked back. She hugged herself tightly, an awkward silence settling over the room.
