((Bumping so it's not this far in the pages))
After the ride on the ferris wheel, Abby wanted to get some food. Nathan, being the good big brother he was, took her to the nearest food cart and got her something. He felt increasingly uneasy about the men in suits. To his side, he glimpsed something and had to look again. There was a girl. She was...weird though. It was like she was invisible. Like when he looked away, he nearly forgot her. But he managed to keep sight of her.
He watched Adeline for a moment, confused. There were too many people around for him to focus on just her thoughts, unless she were to think about him specifically. Everyone around her just seemed not to notice. It was strange to him.
Adeline looked up, searching for the eyes she felt. No one looked at her. Ever. She was just used to it.. so it was weird for her to meet someones eyes, which she did. The boy - man?- looked curious and she automatically began her mantra. Don't look, there's nothing here to see. You don't see anything, do you? You look mental staring at nothing. You should walk away, forget this even happened.
Adeline moved through the crowd again, finally reaching the outskirts of the fair grounds. When she turned around, she could still see the boy. He's cute, though, Addie. And interested.. what's so bad about interest, Ad? There's so much wrong with interest. She knew that and still she wanted someone to be interested in her. Everything was scary, though, because she knew that only some types of people could see her.
Nathan was surprised by the line of thoughts he got. She expected not to be seen? He shook his head. She was strange indeed, and she intrigued him quite a lot. Without much thought, he took Abby's hand and led her through the crowd, trying to follow the girl and kee his eyes on her. anytime he lost sight of her he nearly forgot what she even looked like, and it was sort of scary. He wanteed to see her. He wanted to remember.
"Nathan! I don't wanna go this way!" Abby pulled from his hold, and of course, Nathan couldn't just leave her there, so he turned to her. "What are you even chasing after?" She asked, quirking a brow.
Nathan glanced back, but he didn't see the girl. Just the men in suits, which were making him more and more uncomrortable. He sighed. "Nothing now. Let's just go. I've had enough of the fair." Abby pouted and whined and complained, but Nathan wouldn't hear it, picking her up and heading for the nearest exit to the grounds.
Staying silent as humanly possible, Adeline followed after the boy and girl exiting the fair. Why would anyone be interested? She had to find out, so she moved behind them, ducking behind trees and stretching out in the underbrush. The wooded area that had frightened her before, now hid her rather well from prowing eyes.
Adeline came across a high thorn bush and almost decided to call it quits. "Ow!" She slapped her hand over her mouth and ducked behind a tree, keeping an eye on the pair. She'd scratched up her ankles, swinging over the bush on a low branch. Now she just hoped the little girl would keep him distracted enough not to come investigate.
Nathan heard it and paused, glancing in that direction. There was no crowd there, so he opened his mind up and listened intently for thoughts besides the annoyed and somewhat distracted thoughts of his little sister. "Hello?" He asked, not looking for a verbal response so much as a reflexive mental response.
((Sorry! I have been super busy the past two days!!! >-< ))
Cinder had just finished her last bite when the took a deep satisfied breath...when the overly sweet smell entered her nose. She froze and hurriedly took another breath, this time on that was short and quick.
"That smells like..."
She quickly jumped up and began to follow her nose. It led her to a small stand. She ducked behind it quickly and fell into its shadows when she spotted the men in black.
She began to panic. They had found her! That's when she noticed they were watching a boy that was staring at some thorns. She took another siff and smelled the sweet smell again. Was it coming from the boy?
Cinder sighed. If it was she needed to warn him, because that ment he was like her, and they were after him too.
She began to look around. Just how was she supposed to get his attention without getting theirs?
Adeline inched away. No, shoot shoot. She moved further back into the trees and then ran forward through the underbrush. Sprinting across the street, she ducked behind a car. Addie watched the boy and his sister. He won't leave her. It's fine. Out of the corner of her eye she saw movement. There were the suited men again. She needed to get away but she didn't want to leave the boy alone yet.
Nathan caught the girl's thoughts and latched on to her mind. He sent something to her. Why are you so intent on hiding? You realize as long as so many people are around, they won't try anything, right? He hoped he was right in thinking she was...different. In the same sense as he was. He started walking again to appease a protesting Abby.
Cinder was pretty sure that the men in black's attention was on the boy so she quickly darted in and out of sight until she reached a small shop where she bought a small blond wig and a pair of shades. She slipped both of them, hoping the men in black didn't notice the wig was fake.
She began to creep closer, being sure to keep out of sight of the men. One of the men pulled a phone from his pocket. Cinder caught the last two words that he said before he hung up.
The voice in her mind made her sink into a crouch. Adeline didn't want to chance being seen again. You.. you can hear me? Very slowly, she began to inch forward again. She took a leap of faith way way out of her comfort zone and stood up. Addie slowly made her way to the boy and girl. "Hi," Her voice was quiet, not something very memorable, just liek the rest of her.
Nathan decided to play it off he and Adeline already knew each other and that he was even expecting her. "Hey! There you are! About time you showed up. Come on, you'll be late for dinner with everyone." Listen, just go along with it. I think this might help us get away from those guys. If we can get back to my house, they won't mess with us.
Cinder crept as close as she dared to the others. The men were watching them closely. So she was safe at the moment, but just because these ones weren't looking didn't mean that the ones who had been trailing her for the past week weren't nearby.
She still wasn't entirely sure how they kept finding her.
The muscles in her face weren't used to this practice, so Adeline's smile didn't fall evenly across her lips. "Sorry," Several different lie embellishments skipped through her mind, but non of them seemed to actually work. Addie nodded and just fell into step with him and his sister. What's your name? She tried again to talk to his mind.
Nathan. This is Abby. She doesn't know about any of this, and I'd rather if she still didn't know. Your name? Nathan looked at her, holding his sister's hand and ignoring the weird look she was giving him. "So are you staying the night?" He asked outloud, trying to keep up a front that they knew each other.
Adeline caught the look that Nathan's sister was giving them and she leaned forward a bit. "I'm Adeline, you can call me Addie." She told her in leu of replying to Nathan. "Sure." Adeline answered his spoken question, fighting the urge to keep on her reflective shield again. She wanted Nathan and his sister to see her; to remember her.
The men in black began to slowly walk after the boy, and this girl that had suddenly popped up. Cinder kept her head down as she followed them. She wasn't exactly sure what their plans were for the two teenagers, but she knew it wasn't good.
She saw one slip a small gun from his pocket and load a small dart in it. Cinder knew what that was. It was a drug. It made the person become sick and eventually knocked them out.
Cinder growled as they began to take aim. She had to act.
Cinder darted forward and launched herself at the two teens. She colided hard into them just as the men shot.
Nathan had already caught the drifting thoughts, but his reaction time was a little slow. He yelped when someone slammed into them, knocking him to the ground. He quickly looked around for his little sister, putting her safety above all else. He'd thought they wouldn't have made any move with the little girl around, but aparently he was wrong, and regretting his mistake. He hadn't wanted Abby to know anything about all of this.
The darts flew over head and landed somewhere a head of them. Cinder glanced up at the men and saw they were reloading for a second shot.
She turned to the older kids, "Get out of here. You're in danger."
(Just wondering, but shouldn't there be exclaimation points in that?)
