"No," she said softly. "I'll take what I can get." She smiled at Matt to show him she was happy.
Matt nodded, "Alright," he smiled faintly at her. "Do you want to get back to your room, so you can sleep? We can leave tomorrow morning."
"Sounds good," she said and got up to leave. As always, she waited for him to hold her hand so she could get in her room.
Matt stood next to her, taking her hand and walking with her back towards her room, keeping her close the whole time.
Rori felt Matt's warmth next to her and was sorry to have to part ways. "Goodnight," she whispered at the door, her other hand resting lightly on his arm.
"Good night," Matt smiled softly, leaning in and kissing her cheek before letting go of her hand.
Rori blushed as Matt kissed her cheek. She leaned against the door, unwilling to let it shut just yet. "We'll really leave in the morning? I'll see you?" it was almost too good to be true.
"Yeah, of course," Matt smiled at her, "I've just got to get all my papers together, and check on Joel one last tme, just so he can sit in there and be lonely for a bit longer..." he didn't know why he was doing this, but he wanted to, tat was all he knew. "I'll see you in the morning."
"See you," Rori murmured, letting the door finally slam shut. Why did her heart race at the sound? Why did she feel as if she'd been lied to, and she would never see him again? She pushed these morbid thoughts away, instead going to her bed and resolving to get at least five hours of sleep. She lay there, eyes pried open, thinking terrible things.
Matt went back to his room quickly, grabbing some of his belongings before going to check on Joel. It was a mistake. Joel had figured out the door.
Joel lept on Matt when he opened the door, pushing him backwards out the door, Matt had lost his balance. Joel attempted to jump off, to run back down the hallway, but Matt grabbed his foot. Joel fell with a thud before turning around and scratching across Mat't's face... hissing. He was gone before Matt could stop him. "sh*t... sh*t..."
Matt ran back to his room, clutching the side of his face, where he had been scratched. There was a bit of blood, but he didn't have time to fix that. he grabbed his stuff and then sprinted back to Rori's room, swinging inside and grabbing her wrist. "We have to go. Now."
"Why?" she said, "What's wrong?" At the look on his face, she stumbled out into the hallway and followed him without another word.
"Joel got out of his room, we have to go now," Matt pulled her along with him for a bit, almost running. They were almost to the stairs... so close to being safe from Joel.
But Joel smelled thiem quickly, the bit of blood on Matt's face giving them away. Matt shoved Rori into another room, keeping her away from him before sprinting around. He knew the way around here, Joel didn't, and he quickly lost the male vampire.
He jumped back into the same room Rori was in, barely escaping Joel... he pounded on the door, shouting abuse.
"Go away, Joel! I hate you!" Rori shouted. "Why don't you just leave?" Maybe if he knew she wasn't Sired anymore, he'd give up and leave them alone. She leaned into Matt, scared, because she knew that was unlikely. Joel had always had a temper.
Matt grabbed Rori's hand and kept her close. "He has to go away eventually..."
"You don't hate me?" Joel said, his voice sickly sweet. "I was really just beginning to like you."
"What?" Rori said, confused. What did he mean, "just beginning to like her"? He......
"You were playing me this whole time," she whispered, knowing he could hear. For some reason, this still hurt.
Matt pulled her close. "It's alright, he can't get to you unless I go to the door."
"Unless you go to the door, to get her food, so you can get food, what, you guys were going to leave without me? Well how are you even going to eat now?" Joel scoffed.
"I'll drain you dry," Rori snarled. "If you take one step in this room."
"That's the thing sweetheart," Joel laughed. "I can't get in there. You can't touch me, but you can't get out, and you'll starve!" he laughed.
"Don't call me that," she snapped. Rori looked around the room, for a window--something. But they were trapped. Well....she technically wouldn't starve, if Matt gave his consent. But Matt needed food. And making him a vampire wasn't an option. They were stuck.
"You don't have to starve," Matt muttered, "As long as I can stay alive if you only drink a little from me at a time..." he didn't know what came over him then, the words had just tumbled out of his mouth.
