Rhys grimased, "I only wish I could tell you. I does look kinda cool though." Rhys was trying to figure out how the boy would react to all of what was hapening.
Ian replied, "It doesn't look cool. Who are you, and where's my family?"
Ian struggled to stay calm. Where was he, ad where was Kenzie?
Rhys was shocked at the boys reply. "My name is Rhys. I don't know what is going on around here and in all honesty I could use another man around with all these girls. The dude lying in the sand isn't going to be much help when it comes to that, hes kinda wimpy. would you mind giving me a hand with all of these girls?"
Rosalyn hears the two boys talking and quickly comes over. "Let's get one thing straight—we stopped becoming normal 'girls' the moment everyone we cared about died. Now it's on us to survive, and I won't tolerate being seen as weak. Never have." She put her hands on her hips and waited for the boys to wipe the blank, surprised looks off their faces. Their expressions made her smirk.
Ian nodded. He was glad this Rhys guy with the weird leg understood that he was a big boy. He could handle scary things. He always helped....
Kenzie. No, he couldn't think about her. Not now.
He followed Rhys over to the girls. "Yeah, us guys need to help these wimpy girls," he agreed. As he walked, though, he felt a searing pain in his ankle. He tried to man up and hoped Rhys didn't notice.
Rhys shot the boy a look that plainly said See what I mean? He turned to Rosalyn " My apoligies Ma'am no disrespect intended, I was just telling this man here the facts plain and simple."
Ian looked at the short, tough girl with the attitude. He wanted to ask her what she meant by 'died' but he was a little scared of her. Regardless, he pushed out his chest and tried to look brave. "Who's that?" he asked, pointing to the little girl who was hanging onto Rosalyn's legs.
Rhys looked in the direction of the little girl. "That is Kay we found her here on the beach... by the way what is your name?"
"Ian," he replied. His gaze shifted to the ocean. Was Kenzie still out there somewhere? What was that, moving in the waves?
Abruptly, he broke away from the group and splashed into the water. He had to save her...
A large wave crashed over his head. Pounding filled his head and he couldn't think for a moment. He surfaced , gasping, but was immediately pulled under by an even bigger wave....
Rosalyn spoke sharply "doesn't matter what his name is—we have bigger problems!" Everyone turned to look at what Rosalyn was staring at, eyes wide open and for once, terrified. The sea had turned dark, the clouds black, and the waves were becoming taller than them. In the distance was a huge wage, probably as tall as a two-story building. It was likely the same storm that had crashed them in the first place.
"Everybody, move your a**es into the island!" Rosalyn shouted, though no one needed any hints. "Let's go, Kay! Move it!"
Before she turned to run with the others, Rosalyn hauled Ian out of the waves by grabbing the collar of his shirt. Bedraggled and spluttering water, the boy followed close behind.
Sand stung Ian's eyes. He tried to breathe, but it felt like his lungs were being crushed. He reached out...
"Kenzie?" The word was lost in the roar of the dark sea.
Ian shuddered and followed Rosalyn. He turned one last time to look at the waves...a lone seagull floated on the angry water.
Rosalyn could tell something was wrong with Ian. And though it seemed like she didn't care, Rosalyn felt a sick dread at leaving all the dead behind for the sea to swallow and preserve forever, without a proper burial. But she had Kay to think of, and now the others, and the storm was approaching rapidly. It would be safest to find shelter in the center of the island.
Ian caught up to the tough girl and made a point of being obnoxious. "Where are we going?"
Luna put Johns arm around and half carried, half dragged him in the direction that Rosalyn had taken. afer a second Rhys came to help and togeather they managed to get John to safety from the oncoming storm.
((Technically, to guys were ahead of me... But whatever XD)).
"To the center," Rosalyn said, ignoring the false bravado in the boys voice. She could see the fear in him. "Look," she said. "I'll do my best to protect you—whether you like it or not. But I ask that you watch out for us too, in return. That means less of an act and more genuine growth—who knows when we'll be rescued? This is survival time."
Surprisingly, Kay chimed in. "This is the day we all become warriors." Her solemn blue eyes said it all.
(( I have to go for tonight. please try not to go to far into the story without me.))
Ian made a face at Rosalyn's back. "Fine," he muttered. Normally, he'd argue, but not with a girl like this one.
Besides, he was tired and cold and he had no idea where Kenzie was. He just wasn't in the mood for an argument.
